Big British Landlord Bans 'Coloured People' Over 'Curry Smell'

Why has the blotchy red face of England’s millionaire, buy-to-let landlord Fergus Wilson recently gotten a lot of facetime in both local UK and international media outlets? Well, the poor chap doesn’t like curry.

The casual racism spewing from the lips of Mr. Wilson has enraged many worldwide as the Kent landlord, owner of hundreds of properties in the area, responded to outcry surrounding the discriminatory rental clauses he sent Evolution, a rental company that manages quite a few of Mr. Wilson properties. You’d think a man of his age would have the good sense to tone down his blatant racism after his leaked rental clause went viral, stating, “No coloured people because of the curry smell at the end of the tenancy,” but it seems Mr. Wilson unfortunately only inherited wrinkles in his old age, leaving even the semblance of wisdom by the wayside. Mr. Wilson defended his barring of people of colour to The Sun as composed as a landlord patiently explaining why he doesn’t like termites in his properties.

“It is a problem with certain types of coloured people — those who consume curry — it sticks to the carpet.” Mr. Wilson continues, “You have to get some chemical thing that takes the smell out. In extreme cases you have to replace the carpet.”

Just to show you how reasonable this tweed-wearing xenophobic landlord is, we thought we’d show you what other tenants Mr. Wilson has a problem with: victims of domestic abuse, single parents, workers on low incomes, families with children, pet owners, smokers and single adults. All the aforementioned people are not allowed to rent Mr. Wilson’s properties.

The next frustrating layer of this interesting, to say the least, encounter with a discriminatory landlord is that the local police cannot “prosecute Mr Wilson because he has not broken criminal law,” says The Sun. Many have challenged this statement by citing the fact that racial discrimination in the housing sector, in its very essence, breaches civil law, calling for tentants to sue their landlord.

Although we are sure many will experiment with their own form of vigilantism against Mr. Wilson and his unabashed prejudice, perhaps the best way to respond to Mr. Wilson’s wishes is to adhere to them. With apparently nobody else allowed to rent his properties other than elderly caucasian people Mr. Wilson will have to buy extra chemicals to get the smell of death wafting out of his Kent tombs for the decrepit.
