From the heart of an ever-moving city, Kartik Kumra established his New Delhi-based Indian handcrafted fashion brand in 2021. The mission of Kartik Research is to create an intimate connection collection after another. We can see this appear in the fabrication of the clothes. Every article of apparel has a personal handmade element to it. Specifically, the embroidery it is done by hand, and the quilts and shirts are produced on handlooms, channelling the artisanship that comes from centuries of Indian craft. As a result, every work that is produced embraces its imperfections and has a unique personality.

The brand aims to explore a historical Indian subculture for each season. Their first collection explored the aesthetic of the 'Beat Music' culture that emerged from the fascination in India with psychedelic rock in the 1960s.

Kartik Research elevates Indian textiles to a new level by collaborating with regional craftspeople to handcraft unique textiles. Despite taking months to produce, their 2024 collection had 24 succinct pieces with intricate details. The local tradition asepect was emphasised by the mismatched garlands that were worn with blazers that included embossed flower embroidery along the collar. Sequined and patterned workwear jackets, paired with form-fitting pants and patchwork denim with circular pocket appliques, furthered the brand's distinctive personality. The adaptable menswear collection, which featured paisley neckties, leaf-printed shirts, and tattered outerwear, was dotted with intricate designs that established Kartik Research as a brand to watch.

As For the new Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Kartik Research dives deep into the devotional dressing — where ceremonial tailoring and workwear meet. Pilgrimage and craftsmanship inspired this collection, allowing it to capture India's evolving identity, combining heritage with a raw, lived-in aesthetic. South Asian designer Kartik Kumra is on the move and is clearly not slowing down anytime soon. Kartik Research's collection debuted at Paris Fashion Week last season, hosting a presentation with a patchwork-style Baracuta collaboration. Six months after, Kartik Research has come to the runway to unveil his Spring/Summer 2025 collection that sets the tone for South Asian innovation and puts it center stage.

The first Indian brand on the menswear calendar, Kartik Kumra is making a fashion statement with his designs and ideologies while also being a voice for South Asian creativity, providing a platform to shine. While his creations have a propensity to indulge in the boldness and the beauty of Indian culture, his SS25 collection is noticibly understated. It explores the everyday wardrobes of the residents, merging casual sportswear with polished tailoring and cultural markers while being an unapologetic reflection of South Asia's bohemian lifestyle.

The Fall/Winter 2025 collection is a commanding intersection of heritage and contemporary design, presented alongside the label’s first book,'“AMDAVAD'. Deeply influenced by the Indo-modernist philosophies of B.V. Doshi and M.F. Husain, the collection highlights the tactile richness of handwoven Indian textiles such as khadi, dyed naturally to minimize environmental impact. Each garment carries the imprint of skilled artisans, with intricate hand embroidery that elevates traditional craftsmanship into wearable art. Kartik Research’s signature 'weird suit'—a subversion of conventional tailoring— anchors the collection’s silhouettes, blending structured elegance with an organic, lived-in aesthetic.

This beautiful book visually narrates the collection’s ethos, cementing Kartik Research’s commitment to storytelling through clothing. More than just a fashion statement, FW25 is a meditation on India’s evolving design language, where the past and present coalesce in an ode to slow and purposeful creation.
