Four years in the making, 'Tabeer' is the debut full-length album by 20-year-old singer-songwriter, producer, and sound engineer Amenn Wihaan. True to its Urdu title, which means 'interpretation' , the album unfolds as a continuous, dream. Across nine tracks, Amenn blends rock-driven electric guitar riffs and rhythmic drum patterns in the album with the meditative sonorities of Indian classical music and shoegaze textures.
Born in Karnal and now based in Mumbai, Amenn Wihaan’s journey is as multifaceted as his music. Whether writing lyrics for peers like Abhijay Sharma and MC Heam, or designing studios for underprivileged artists through The Dharavi Dream Project (with support from names like A.R. Rahman and Raja Kumari), his work speaks to both craft and conscience. And with 'Tabeer', he's reshaping the contours of the indie scene.
Songs like 'Ab Yahaan' (ft. Faizan) and 'OH DARIYA' (ft. Gini) are co-produced by Jeevana and Stephen Palakhe respectively, drawing upon rich collaborations without diluting the intimate core of Amenn’s vision. Other standout moments include 'Doob Gayi' (ft. Fiza), 'SHAYAD' (ft. Krameri), and the closing track 'Kaafi Door', which bring together co-producers like Shivang Arora, Noumad, Elias, and Ameen Singh deepening the album’s emotional register in their own ways.
The album is expansive in mood and movement. There’s an unmistakable ethereality that threads through both its heavier, guitar-forward compositions and its more acoustic, harmony-rich moments. Whether it's the swelling haze of distortion or the gentler unraveling of melody, each track maintains a sense of weightlessness, as if suspended in a same liminal space that is also depicted in the montages of the album trailer. The album’s rhythmic diversity is equally striking — some songs unfold with a slow, meditative pace, while others pulse with dynamism, yet none feel disjointed. Instead, they mirror the unpredictable rhythms of memory itself, shifting between drift and propulsion.
Complete and abundant as a body of work, 'Tabeer' is an invocation of feeling, and an exploration of the intangible. It creates a world where the lines between dream and reality blur, inviting the listener to confront the uncomfortable while also finding a strange sense of peace there.
