If you’re the kind of person who believes brunch is a silly trend, that’s better suited to New York’s elite, or Mumbai’s kitty party-loving ladies who lunch—pack up and take your negative nancy attitude back where you came from. Brunch is a disgusting over indulgent marriage of two definitive meals rolled into one, designed to round your belly, get you drunk way too early in the day, and induce Rip van Winkle-esque naps.

We’re hedonistic about our food over at Homegrown so obviously, we love Brunch, and we’re willing to fight naysayers too—but only once we’re done with every bottomless Bombay brunch available on this list, followed by a glorious nap befitting said meal. (Homegrown’s mathematical model predicts that for every hour spent at brunch, another two must be spent drooling on a pillow).

Allow us to take you on a trip across cuisines that range from the traditional American idea of the meal with the warm, rich goodness of pancakes and waffles, to the more exotic Kung Pao Shrimp Scramble of Bastian and Poached Eggs on Whipped Yogurt of Cafe Zoe. Now stop reading our rambles and get involved in making weekend plans; brunch just injected new potential into them.

Where: B/1, New Kamal Building, Opposite National College, Linking Road, Bandra West.

Brunch Timings: 12:00PM to 2:30PM and 2:30PM to 4:00PM. (They have two separate seatings.)

While this list is arranged alphabetically, it was pure fate that our current favourite, is also leading this list. Bastian’s brunch is undoubtedly, an experience our tastebuds will forever be grateful for. An exorbitant treat that is simply pure indulgence, you have to reserve a table in advance for this delicious Sunday brunch. They take their brunch very seriously—even putting in a reservation charge of INR 300 per head (deducted from your grand total in the end), to prevent last minute cancellations.

Their menu includes a range of dishes for every kind of diet, right from gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian, to the devout carnivores. Their Kung Pao Shrimp Scramble knocks nearly every other egg dish we’ve ever had at other brunches, right out of the park. Remember to go in a group though, just because you’ll want to eat as much as you can off their menu—don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Cost: INR 2,500 for two.

Where: Mathuradas Mills Compound, NM Joshi Marg, Lower Parel.

Brunch Timings: 7:30AM to 5:00PM.

Breakfast is undeniably one of the best meals of our day. So an all-day breakfast menu is exactly what dreams are made of; coupled with the warehouse-like feel of Zoe! Brunch here is a laid back affair with several staple options like the scrumptious pancakes and scones, or the various egg options including Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine or the Scrambled Eggs. Personal favourite? Poached Eggs on Whipped Yogurt. Oh, and don’t forget to get some crispy bacon on the side!

Although they’re all pretty straightforward options, brunch at Cafe Zoe is likely to highlight how sometime it’s not just about what’s on your plate, but how it’s made just right. You’re not going to go home disappointed, that’s for sure, so come tuck right in.

(P.S. This is another brunch spot you want to bring a group to, just so you can order stacks on stacks of pancakes, with eggs on the side.)

Cost: INR 2000 for two.

III. Indigo

Where: 4, Mandlik Road, Behind Taj Mahal Hotel, Colaba.

Brunch Timings: 12:00PM to 4:00PM.

Indigo has carved its place into our food pieces like a smooth operator; with classy interiors and charming wooden panelling not to mention top-notch quality food, this is hardly a surprise. When it comes to brunch—Indigo has a lot to offer. You have an assortment of breads, a selection of tapas, antipasti and salads, and hot on the heels of these come entrees straight from the grill, with a mouthwatering array of dessert sealing the deal. As for beverages, your options include beer, sangrias, flavoured vodkatinis, caipiroska’s and absolutely all the tea and coffee you can drink.

While the menu keeps changing from one week to another, the juicy Jerk Spiced Chicken, full of heaty flavours, and the Cajun Spiced Sweet Potatoes, which restore our faith in the power of great seasoning, are recommendations not to be missed out on. If it’s some lazy Sunday brunch you’re looking to catch without compromising on a classy ambience, you know where to find it at.

Cost: INR 2570 for two including taxes.

Where: Hotel Diplomat, Whitehouse Building, 24 - 26, B.K Boman Behram Marg, Apollo Bunder, Colaba.

Brunch Timings: 12:00PM onwards.

When someone says unlimited sushi, you can bet we’ll be there—only after we’ve confirmed where this unlimited sushi is. Pa Pa Ya’s Sunday brunch is everything we’ve ever wanted wrapped up in one perfectly delicious package (and is surprisingly a fairly new addition to our food lists). Beyond their signature sushi and dim sum, their brunch also makes room for their extravagant mains such as the Avocado Taco Tapas, Ching Mai Curry, Sichuan Style Crispy Prawns, and the Vegetable Yaki Udon Noodles paired with the Sundried Chillies and Bamboo Shoots.

While it is easy to get carried away with their ever-popular Yellowtail Raw Mango Sushi, ensure you’ve got space for the real crowd pleaser—the delectable chocolate ball on fire. (It sounds terrifying, but it is oh so satisfying. Think chocolate, cheesecake, more chocolate, ice cream, toffee sauce and alcohol.)

Cost: INR 1699 excluding taxes and alcohol.

Where: 87 Chapel Road, Next to Mount Carmel Church, Reclamation, Bandra West.

Brunch Timings: 11:30AM to 5:30PM.

Saltwater Cafe’s pretty much a perennial favourite, with the perfect concoction of courteous staff and delicious food, not to mention the gorgeous decor. The aptly-named happy hours start 12:30PM onwards which – what a coincidence! – is a great time to get brunch as well. However, if you want some of their breakfast menu for brunch, drop in before 12. It’s worth everything, for their Eggs Benedict with Salmon or Ham.

Don’t worry if you’re late though, the soft, tangy Spanish omelette is just as good, and is available on their all-day ‘Eggscellent’ menu.

Cost: INR 1000 for two.

Where: Kalapesi Trust Building, Near Hotel Suba Palace, CS Maharishi Marg, Colaba.

Brunch Timings: 11:00AM to 4:00PM.

Early birds and hungover troopers – gather round. It’s the clear cognisance of the patrons’ myriad palate preferences that Chef Alex Sanchez acknowledges, that really sets The Table’s brunch apart. Seasonal ingredients such as organic free-range hen eggs to in-house granola and fresh Italian black and white truffles adorn the menu, which is in a state of constant flux that’ll ensure you’re never bored.

The Table’s brunch has something for everyone – from healthy cereals and light, farm fresh salads to more indulgent options of eggs, steak, burgers and more. We genuinely wish we could recommend items, but when every item on their menu is a newly minted masterpiece, we really can’t. What we can do is completely assure you that you’re in for one heck of a brunch.

Cost: INR 2000 for two.
