The narrative surrounding climate change is heavily politicized and intertwined with the interests of big corporations and government agendas; making it a daunting subject to fully grasp. This complex web of political and economic influences often leaves individuals feeling overwhelmed and powerless. Despite these challenges, the signs of climate change are unmistakable. We witness rising temperatures, erratic weather patterns, and an increase in anomalous natural disasters; all of which indicate that the situation is worsening. Acknowledging the urgent need for change is no longer an abstract concept but a personal responsibility we must embrace.
To address this pressing issue, an upcoming workshop in Bengaluru aims to demystify climate change and empower individuals to take meaningful action. Organized by Shravan Shankar, a renowned Climate Finance Expert, the workshop promises to go beyond buzzwords and clichés. It will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how climate change affects us and explore practical ways to create impact at both personal and societal levels.
Shravan Shankar has been a pivotal figure in sustainable development since 2009, consulting for organizations across India, Asia, and Europe to promote sustainable practices and developing large-scale projects supported by international bodies like the UK's Department for International Development and the EU's Sustainable Consumption and Production program. His contributions extend to policy work, including India's National Manufacturing Plan and Sri Lanka's National Green Reporting System. Recognized with a National Award on Smart City Solutions by India's Prime Minister, Shravan currently serves as a sustainability expert for various organizations and advises businesses in India, Japan, and Africa on sustainable growth. The Understanding Climate Change workshop at SGB is a unique opportunity for individuals to engage deeply with the topic of climate change. It aims to move beyond superficial discussions and tokenistic solutions while offering participants the tools and knowledge to integrate climate action into their daily lives. The workshop will help attendees reflect on the impact of climate change, understand its far-reaching consequences, and take concrete steps towards creating a sustainable future. By addressing the issue at both personal and societal levels, the workshop emphasizes the collective responsibility we all share in combating climate change.
