In response to the monster that capitalism and consumer culture has become today, what we value as individuals and as businesses has shifted dramatically. It’s no longer about a product or service alone—it’s about the emotional resonance, the meaning, the story behind what we choose to engage with. The relationship between brands and their patrons has become more personal, grounded in trust, authenticity, and shared values. This evolution has opened the door for spaces that go beyond mere transactions, places where connections flourish and experiences matter.

Out of the same ethos came 'Shelter', a haven for cultural conversations, slow living, and community. Situated in a moss-green heritage home in Bandra’s charming Chuim Village, Shelter is a temporary immersive retail experience offering a thoughtfully curated selection of brands, art & installations, workshops, and experiences that go beyond shopping. Here, art, design, and mindfulness intertwine to create an environment that invites visitors to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters.

Shelter is the brainchild of two creative powerhouses, Divya Saini, the founder of Bodements which celebrates vintage and eco-conscious designs and Roma Narsinghani, behind the eponymous jewelery brand. Together, they built a platform where brands thrive, stories are told, and customers connect on a deeper level.

According to the latter, Shelter is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Divya and her, that is rooted in shared values and creative synergies they have explored across many projects over the years. Roma went on to share, "When we had the chance to restore and reimagine this beautiful 200-year-old home, which was a part of Bodements studio, it felt like the perfect opportunity to create something deeper—a space that embodies emotion, connection, and discovery."

With Shelter, their vision was to break away from the quick, transactional nature of typical pop-ups that often encourage impulse consumption.

"We essentially wanted to create a space where people could slow down, immerse themselves, and truly connect with themselves, with others, and with the stories behind every brand. Each brand here offers something unique, with QR codes and sheets allowing people to dive deeper into their work. Through Shelter, we hope to inspire new ways of living, helping people discover thoughtful brands and experiences that feel intentional and transformative."

In its second chapter, called Craft Interlude, Shelter transforms into a sanctuary of slow craft, renewal, and intentional living. Designed to help you embrace mindfulness and self-care, Craft Interlude invites us to begin the year with meaningful practices and a fresh perspective. Throughout this chapter, visitors can explore a series of thoughtfully curated workshops. From an enriching Sunday of Mindfulness and Creative Exploration, featuring journaling sessions with MindSight and storytelling through jewelry with Mika Jewelry, to hands-on experiences like Mapping Memories with artisanal fragrances by Kastoor, each session is crafted to engage with brands in an experiential way.

You can dive deep into the spiritual with a Sound Meditation led by Bombay Balance or align your energy with a Chakra Consultation by Terry Manchanda. For those seeking a unique communal ritual, the Cacao Ceremony by Inner Alkemi promises warmth and introspection. Shelter even delves into the often-overlooked realm of sexual wellness, guided by Kanchi Mehta, creating a safe space for exploration and understanding.

Shelter’s ethos of creativity and sustainability is mirrored in its curated selection of over 50 brands and artists. There's also a collaboration with Mumbai Readers’ Mixer, transforming the space into a haven for book lovers with a cozy reading nook curated by Abhimanyu Lodha. And while you flip through pages here, you can encounter breathtaking art installations by talents like Poojan Gupta and Prarthna Singh, merging creativity with contemplation.

For 10 days, a heritage home will turn into a living, breathing intersection of culture, craft, and consciousness. Craft Interlude is a reminder that in a fast-moving world, there’s immense value in slowing down, engaging meaningfully, and surrounding ourselves with beauty and intention.

When asked about her personal favourite brands from the editions of Shelter they have hosted so far, she mentioned the textile brand Harago, circular design brand Lafaani, Modern Day Botanical Apothecary Au Natural Alchemy, ethical luxury fashion brand Pieux, and upcycled accesories brand Econock, as her picks from the first edition.
