Many of us have heard about the iconic circus and dance troupe that is Cirque Du Soleil. Known for its mind-blowing performances, avant-garde concepts, and unique choreography, Cirque Du Soleil is a world renowned entertainment company based in Montreal, Canada. Started in 1984 as a 20-person performance act, the company has expanded over the years and revolutionised the art of circus performance and acrobatics. Cirque Du Soleil has performed in over 60 countries and 450 cities worldwide, and their next stop is India.
The company will be debuting it’s newest original production, ‘Bazzar’ in India this November, before touring it around the world. ‘Bazzar’ is Cirque Du Soleil’s 43rd original production, and it’s first to be performed in India. For this venture, the company has recruited Indian artists and Mallakhamb performers Rajesh Mudki and Rajesh Amrale to join the cast. Mudki and Amrale are both members of the Mallakhamb performance troupe called MallakhambIndia and have performed at the Common Wealth Games in Australia in 2018.
In an interview with The Daily Pioneer, Cirque Du Soleil Entertainment Group’s CEO Daniel Lamarre said that performing in India has always been one of the company’s goals. “I believe that India will influence our evolution moving forward. A lot of people talk about diversity. At Cirque du Soleil, we don’t talk about diversity. We live it every day with different nationalities influencing our growth. Now, it is India’s turn to influence the growth and content of Cirque du Soleil,” he added.
‘Bazzar’ has been tweaked in size and scale to better suit an Indian audience, and it’s debut in India is part of an effort to further India’s position as an international hub for live entertainment. To produce the show in India, Cirque Du Soleil has partnered with BookMyShow, and tickets for the show are available through online registration.
Although not much has been revealed about the theme and concept of ‘Bazzar’, there is no doubt that the show will be spectacular, and we look forward to Cirque Du Soleil’s Indian debut.
