If you’re looking for a movie to watch, why not pick one from Vicky Kaushal’s very own binge-list?

The past two months have seen the #HGFilmClub run in full swing, all thanks to our dear friend and talented director, Sonam Nair. With her help, we have been able to bring to you specially curated lists of films for every mood you might have been finding yourself in during the pandemic.

To add to the fun and make this week even more exciting, our dear friend knocked on the doors of her dear friend, stellar actor Vicky Kaushal (only metaphorically; she has been following social distancing ardently!) to request him to curate a list of his all-time favourite film recommendations for you.

With a pandemic raging against us, it’s only beneficial for each of us to take some time off and appreciate the art of filmmaking through the years. So, throw some popcorn in the microwave, pour a drink of your choice, and slip under the covers to lose yourself in the world of cinema.

One of the finest actors in the industry, Vicky Kaushal had his breakthrough in 2018 with Masaan, Love Per Square Foot and Raazi established him as a force to be reckoned with. With exceptional performances in Lust Stories, Sanju and Uri, the man made a mark on the minds of millions. A movie-buff himself, we would say it is safe to assume that his recommendations for HG Film Club will not disapppoint!

I. Memories Of Murder

If you’re in the mood for a murder-mystery, your buck stops here. The 2003 South Korean crime-drama directed by Bong Joon-ho stars Song Kang-ho and Kim Roi-ha as two regular detectives who have been assigned a double homicide. They realise they are treading murky waters when the murderer commits a series of murders and is the first documented serial killer of the country. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together one by one, the detectives begin to make headway in the case.

II. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro

Ever wondered what you would do if you accidentally witnessed a murder? Director Kundan Shah shows the story of two photographers Vinod (Naseeruddin Shah) and Sudhir (Ravi Baswani) who are in attempts to set up their own photo studio. However, when they land a stint with the magazine Khabardar, they are introduced to the shady Bombay real estate universe. Photographing a murder by accident, the duo are shaken beyond belief.

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

III. The Godfather

If you ever wondered where the infamous dialogue “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse” came from, this movie is for you. Putting the idealistic son of the biggest Mafia man in New York face to face with his family’s realities, director Francis Ford Coppola puts forth a tale of families, money, and power seamlessly. The film stars Al Pacino, James Caan, Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall and Diane Keaton.

The Godfather will soon be available to stream on Netflix.

IV. Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13

All things money, ego and criminal, the Ocean’s series ticks all boxes on the heist checklist. In a series of high-adrenaline robberies, the three movies tail Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, through his journey. Dealing higher stakes each time, Danny and his team pull off impressive robberies with three rules in mind: don’t hurt anybody, don’t steal from anyone who doesn’t deserve it, and play the game like you’ve got nothing to lose.

Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12 and Ocean’s 13 are available to stream on Netflix.
