Swayampakula Balasubramaniam a.k.a Dakta Dub is a DJ and radio presenter who has made music his life across several spheres. His musical career began in 2004 when he was visiting Budapest, Hungary while pursuing a professional diploma course where his journey led him to Tilos Radio, the biggest underground station in the country. Here, he developed and honed his DJ-ing and mixing skills while also hosting the greatly popular weekly show “Indian Lights”. He also spent some time as a guest DJ on several of Tilos’ other programs and in 2006, he even set up an Indian music show on Radio C FM 88.8, a gypsy radio station.

But radio wasn’t the only way he was getting his music out in the open, he also played at clubs and festivals across Europe. The No Man’s Land festival, Hungary, Hanna Hanna festival Slovakia and RWTH University fest, Germany were just some of the places he worked on his live sets. In 2008 he returned to Hyderabad with the idea to begin a crusade set on spreading underground music vibes to the Indian masses and to do that he turned to his old, reliable medium, radio. On a non-commercial, independent station he is introducing India to his unique mix of cross cultural music. He’s on a mission to take his sound to as many people as he can reach, he even co-founded Monkey Radio - a not for profit cultural organisation - to further the idea of a free-listening internet radio. Although he knows that introducing the whole population to his eclectic style is a tall order, he’s confident that with time and dedication, he’ll reach his goal.

Here’s what he had to say about his set: “I have made this special set exclusively with sounds from nature, ambient and meditative. Unlike my regular club sets, I wanted to do a set, which shows the spiritual side of me, to connect within and be centered. Hope everyone enjoys this, connects to themselves and has a good journey.”
