Mumbai-based rap crew Aavrutti released their latest single Jab Se Dekha with Mass Appeal India. An emerging sound of the Indian hip-hop scene, Aavrutti has managed to gain a loyal following since their debut album ‘Naaya Zamana’ which had hard hitting verses and almost served as a wake-up call for the new generation. The latest single with Torono’s production adds an element of groove and funk to it and makes it quite catchy.
Ahin Viswam ‘Sanchari’
Kerala-origin singer-songwriter Ahin Viswam released a single that displays his sonic skills along with his ability to be vulnerable and honestly raw. “Sanchari translates to ‘traveller’. The song speaks about my journey through life. I’m very passionate about travelling and was inspired to write this song when I moved to Bengaluru to study Sound Engineering. It was my curiosity that fueled my passion for travelling and it’s not about going to a certain place or reaching a destination but the journey itself. The lyrics talk about a magical world beyond this life and I am curious to find out what is there and along the way, I will learn more and more. The song is for all the people around the world who are dreamers who will reach their final destination,” said Viswam.
Akash Chopra ‘I Want To Go’
Akash Chopra’s latest single delves into a more ambient bedroom-pop sound that seems like a quite predictable direction post his more acoustic sound in his single Clumsy. The Jaipur-based singer-songwriter plays on the theme of nostalgia in the single. The single starts with an acoustic and breezy sound that gets more intense as the song progresses. All in all, the single is right up the alley for all those who love good indie-pop.
AlphaManiac ‘Breakfree’
Produced, mixed, and composed by Tuneer Reddy aka ‘AlphaManiac’, Breakfree is an interesting electro-pop number. The Hyderabad-based producer has only just begun in the Indian music scene and his rather eclectic and experimental sounds make his sound distinct.
Mali ‘Caution To The Wind’
Indie singer-songwriter Maalavika Manoj aka ‘Mali’ released her debut album Caution To The Wind. “The album is an expression of surrender to a complicated period of struggle, but in an almost optimistic way. Sonically and lyrically, it follows through with those themes of contradiction and confusion as well as paying homage to the music that inspired me to be an artist and songwriter in the first place. The album is about working through difficult times and looking on the bright side of grim situations. It is a bittersweet album that very frequently switches between painfully realistic to cautiously optimistic using a perfect blend of both classic and organic sounds as well as a wide variety of vintage and modern electro -pop sounds” says Mali.
Mumbai-based multi-genre artist Sickflip’s latest is an international collaboration with Manchester-based artist Chunky of Swamp 81 stalwart, Levelz crew member and Riot Jazz frontman fame. Breaking convention, Sickflip’s single hits with a skippy, bloopy and bass-heavy Baile funk joint. Perfectly selected by Chunky to bring his off-kilter, bubbling rave-friendly barsmanship. Chunky manages to keep the party popping whilst staying true to his values as a lyricist with cheeky wordplay, layered metaphors and techy flows. Bringing the underground music to the forefront, the single is a sure shot dancefloor number.
