No matter how far she strayed, Chennai-born, Dubai-raised singer Gaya found herself back to her one true love; sharing stories through music. As a creative entrepreneur who has the storytelling prowess that intersects language, culture and musical styles, Gaya found her feet in the indie music space where she spent a significant portion of a decade, narrating stories through the medium she feels the closest to.
Qisse
‘Qisse’ is a creative journey that is only strengthened by an arc of challenges followed by victories. The journey, however, is largely universal and the challenges are more or less, similar. When self-doubt and other dilemmas affect one’s self-belief, it calls for a change, however minute or grandiose. Gaya found herself in a similar situation a few years back and in the five year-hiatus that followed, she rediscovered herself and her art through an altered lens, one that was forgiving, accepting and mainly, kind.
This period allowed her to find her way back to the original destination, one where she continues to narrate stories that impact her. The product to emerge out of this journey is ‘Qisse’ a six-track multilingual album that crafts a fresh, modern sound rooted in Indian classical music.
The album which goes live on the 15th of June, 2022 doubles as Gaya’s creative expression of her journey, her endurance and the healing that followed it. The tracks which speak of self-love and acceptance, preach a universal spirit of togetherness and how every journey no matter how pleasant or arduous can be made more powerful when it is shared. The track also marks Gaya’s homecoming to the Indian music scene after nearly a decade.
The track is accompanied by a music video which was shot across Bombay with a small indie crew.
