Maiden Formula 2 Podium For Indian Racer Jehan Daruvala

Indian Racer Jehan Daruvala’s historical win as the 2nd runner up at the F2 race for Bahrain Grand Prix Support Race has made him the first Indian to secure a podium finish at the race. After a rather difficult first season in F2, Daruvala’s win in a nail-biting battle with championship leader Mick Schumacher has proven the 22-year-old racer’s determination at the circuit.

Starting from the 8th position on the grid, the F2 racer was committed to winning from the start. He had a great start, gaining the 6th position in the first few laps. After which he struggled from lap 5 falling down 2 positions and being forced off the circuit. After successive losing laps, he emerged from the pit at the 18th position and started aggressively defending for the title. A series of good laps secured the racer a good spot with Schumacher emerging behind him after his pit spot.

With 10 laps to go and Schumacher behind him, Daruvala aggressively defended his position in the race. The last few laps were tense but Schumacher’s cautiousness gave Daruvala the opportunity to defend the position and clinch for the podium.

With his intelligent driving skills, Jehan Daruvala was able to finish the race 0.894 seconds before Schumacher, securing the 3rd position in the F2 race.

“It was quite fun. I knew he has a lot more than I have to lose, so I was the more aggressive one there. I think it was fair racing and I took my chances with him and it worked out in the end” said Daruvala in an interview to Autocar.
