I judge every Italian restaurant by the quality of its tiramisu. The dessert seems simple enough to make: soak lady fingers (the biscuit, not bhindi) in coffee, coat them in thick layers of rich mascarpone cream, and finish off your masterpiece with a dusting of cocoa powder. However, this supposed simplicity is actually where so many people go wrong– their cream becomes too runny, their biscuits crumble, and their coffee is brewed too weak to give the dish the kick of flavour it needs.

Indians are particular. It’s why we’re so picky with our food, insistent that our mothers cook better than any professional chef can. While pastas and pizzas across the country are often adapted to fit Indian sensibilities, doing so with a tiramisu feels indefensible. A bad tiramisu is an insult to all Italian cuisine.

Mami Bombay is a delivery service that's here to prevent Mumbaikers from suffering through tasteless tiramisu. Originally from Bergamo, a small city north of Milan, Mami Bombay’s founder, Enrico Signorelli, moved to Mumbai to bring the flavours he grew up with to an Indian audience. After working as an account manager for Italy’s biggest delivery platform, Signorelli left his conventional life in Italy behind to pursue an adventure in Mumbai.

However, despite leaving his country, Signorelli pays tribute to his roots through his food. He named his business “Mami” to honour his mother, recalling childhood memories in the kitchen with her, stealing tastes of her mascarpone. Now, hundreds of customers all over Mumbai obsess over his mom’s tiramisu recipe, hankering for an authentic taste of Italy.

Mami Bombay takes limited orders at 12 pm from Monday to Friday, often selling out almost instantly. With only one item on the menu– a classic tiramisu– Mami Bombay’s options are limited, but committed to a quality over quantity mindset, offering its customers what may be Mumbai’s most hyped tiramisu at their convenience.
