St. Mira’s College, Pune, rated as one of the top colleges in Maharashtra, was shut down on March 17th, 2020 after the nationwide lockdown was called. Since then, the college has been helping its students by giving them access to online classes comprising lectures uploaded by the teachers of the respective departments. This has been a thoughtful gesture on the part of the college to make sure that none of its students are lagging behind academically.

Other than that, the college has also initiated an online mental well-being programme where students can share their needs, challenges and personal distresses associated with preventive measures like quarantine and social distancing. It is a flagship move by the Department of Psychology to raise awareness about the mental health of students, regarding which many of them struggle on a day-to-day basis. The initiative was taken when the students of the psychology department had reached out to the faculty for the same. It was an extension of their college Mental Well-being Programme, which had already been started by then.

The college recently made the programme open to other degree students all over India. On 25th April, 2020, they conducted their first webinar series on ‘Managing Anxiety’ and it was attended by over 180 students, comprising both students from St.Mira’s college, as well as those from outside.
