Students Of NLUO Are Demanding Change Through Their Peaceful Protest

The student body of the National Law University, Orissa have embarked on an indefinite strike from the 24th of July against various issues concerning the University. The protest is being carried out as a response to the stagnation of the Administration, unreasonable policies and the institute’s reluctance to bring about reforms. Infrastructural setbacks, such as lack of basic sanitation and maintenance, unpredictable examination policies and the noncompliance of the university’s policies leading to negligible accountability of poor performing teachers are some of the prime reason for distress among the protesters. Complaints have been repeatedly filed by students, and have been ignored by the administration by citing vague excuses such as insufficient funds or demanding more time. Removal of curfew timing, faculty evaluation results and appointments, rationale behind the hike in fees for the incoming batch, academic policy and examination department reforms are a few of the demands that have been put forward by the students. The nature of the protest has been kept peaceful, as it is appropriate in order to maintain a dignified life on campus.

Letter to the University citing the demands of NLUO students

The protest seeks to urge the Administrative officials to carry out the necessary steps that are required to ensure an atmosphere that is conducive to learning, and demands nothing more that the basic right of the students - the right to a University that is equipped to warrant the safe living and academic productivity of its pupils.
