Take A Workation At These Homegrown Co-Working Spaces Across India

With a rise in the digital-nomad lifestyle that decenters work and allows one to explore the world and do what they love daily, how we travel has changed as well.

When the pandemic ended, there was a pretty dramatic shift in a preference for remote and hybrid work, almost fivefold. While in-office work didn’t disappear, hybrid became the sweet spot because it gave people better work-life balance and cut down long commutes. Remote work it meant you didn’t have to save up leaves and wait for that one annual trip to travel. After a day's work you could head out to a beachside bar, a trek to a near-by waterfall in the mountains, or a vibrant local bazaar in a distant little town — any place that isn’t your couch and the same dinner-in-front-of-the-TV situation (although, no shade if that’s your jam).

With a rise in the digital-nomad lifestyle that decenters work and allows one to explore the world and do what they love daily, how we travel has changed as well. While your typical vacations still exist, we've also got 'workations' now — a little trip you can take, or a long one, and stay at a place with a view working alongside others, and wind down at EOD with community-based events of your own liking. If this sounds like a good idea, here are some co-working spaces across India that feel like a getaway:

1. Caju Grove

Caju Grove is a small restored Portuguese villa in Guirim, North Goa, with a handful of rooms arranged around a central garden and pool. The house has shared dining areas, verandahs, and outdoor seating as well as informal zones where people can work through the day. They run short-term and longer stays, and host small gatherings, workshops, supper clubs and pop-ups.

2. Ghoomakad

Ghoomakad is a co-living and co-working colony setup in Rakkar village near Dharamshala, spread across a property with mud houses, treehouses, dorms, and tents. It includes a separate coworking studio with desks, WiFi, and power backup, along with a common kitchen and multiple shared spaces across the land. There’s an organic farm on-site, and parts of the property double up as areas for workshops, residencies, and group sessions.

3. Alt Space

Alt Space is a co-living and co-working space located in Khaniyara near Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. It’s set up as a residential campus where people stay and work from the same place for extended periods. The space includes dedicated work areas with WiFi, along with rooms and shared living spaces for residents. It was started as an initiative by AltCampus and is built for remote workers, freelancers, and entrepreneurs who want to live and work in a shared environment.

4. NomadGao

NomadGao operates co-living and co-working spaces across Anjuna and Assagao in Goa, and Dharamkot in Himachal, with multiple properties like Vila Nova and Secret Garden. People stay in private rooms or studio setups, many with attached workstations, and use shared coworking areas that include indoor desks, outdoor garden seating, rooftop spaces, meeting rooms, and call rooms. Internet speeds are typically 200 Mbps or higher with backup lines, and the spaces are accessible round the clock. In Goa, some properties have an in-house kitchen serving meals on request, while in other locations they partner with nearby cafés through their 'NomadGao Passport' program for food and services. They also run regular activities like skill shares, BBQs, and local outings, and offer long-stay discounts starting from a minimum stay of a few days.

5. Vettaths

Vettaths is a multi-functional co-living and co-working space in Kozhikode, Kerala, designed around a small, shared community setup. The coworking runs on weekdays from 10 am to 6 pm, with options ranging from day passes to monthly plans, and includes high-speed internet, flexible work areas, and access to the common spaces in the house. The space is intentionally set up for interaction, with networking events, collaborations, and people from different fields working out of the same environment. At the same time, it operates as a co-living setup with only a few rooms, shared kitchens, and common living areas, offering workshops, talks, and film screenings as well.
