While we meet every Friday with nothing but joy as this means not having to put pants on for two whole days — sometimes social obligations state otherwise. Planning ahead for a weekend is hard work, more so with the multitude of options that are available. Unfortunately, we don’t have a Zomato or Swiggy to help us filter events out, which is why we decided to step in as your Weekend Warriors. While we can’t promise to be entirely unbiased, we can promise to offer you a hand-picked section of events we know you’ll enjoy.

For Whom Food Outweighs All Else
Hands up if you’re that friend who hates being on the dance floor with a 100 other people rubbing up against you. Fries (or whatever food you pick for the night) are all you really need, in the end. And of course, some beer. Don’t let the usual weekend plans get you down sonny, there’s a whole world of food waiting to be explored out there!
While this isn’t really an event of sorts, it is still quite the expedition. Held on every Sunday morning irrespective of the seasons at Bandra, Versova, Malad and even Thane, these markets sources all their produce from the Nashik/Pune/Mumbai belt. From Smoked Mutton Kheema Samosas and Bheja Cutlets to Mutton Biryani and Paya Soup — this is one feast you don’t want to miss out on. Local history enthusiasts Khaki Tours is organising a Bohri Mohalla Munch, a specially curated Food Walk in the labyrinths of Bohri Mohalla to munch on delightful street food. Participants will get to taste khari biscuits, the non-alcoholic ‘absinthe’, the original ‘natural’ ice cream and biryani without ‘rice’ among other delicacies. Our readers know by now that Homegrown has a certain niche of music that we expose our audience to. We’ve expanded on that in this event selection though, to be fair. From vinyl sessions to an all-out Friday night kinda’ gig — take your pick.

Groove with the ocean vibe & immerse in the sights & sounds of the world above & below the water as this experiential evening will take you across the mesmerizing islands of Seychelles. The Kalizma is world renowned Edwardian yacht, which is over 100 years and has a legacy of having served in two world wars.
Organised by artist and event management Krunk in association with Seychelles Tourism, this electronic music gig will feature sets by DJ-producers Kumail Hamid, Paloma Monnappa, Schlick aka Bradley Tellis from Mumbai and Tarqeeb aka Ashish Jose from Delhi. There is no entry fee.

This Bangalore-based electronic music DJ-producer’s new album will have you on the edge of your seat. Oceantied aka Ketan Bahirat will play a gig to promote his new two-track EP Paradise/Closets. The album encapsulates the feeling of a Bangalore winter creeping in, filled with textures and melodies that add a theatrical touch to both tracks in the EP. Accompanied with powerful vocals from Alexandria in Paradise, and a dreamy semi-fictional narrative by Benkii in Closets, this musical night will take you through an experential journey of different sound palettes. It’d be majorly disappointing if we didn’t have a section dedicated to those who’d rather spend their weekend learning a new skill, watching a play, hearing a story or simply immersing themselves in art and culture, whatsoever form it may come in.

This unique, one of its kind event will transcend you to the time when Bombay was a quaint little town under the British Raj. The Midnight Cycling & Storytelling event which will happen on every Saturday this September will trace the life-journey of a young Gujarati boy who went on from being one of the richest businessman in Bombay to becoming the most hated man.They called him “Kimayagar” or a magician. This midnight adventure will show the participants a different side of Colaba and some of its most legendary structures, and how the protagonist of the story played a role in their making. The iconic Matterden CFC, also known as Deepak Cinema, has grown to become an art hub drawing in like-minded art lovers from across the city. Their recent announcement has thrilled film lovers — every Sunday evening, for the next 26 months, they will be screening classic films for the public. This week they’ve got Ingmar Bergman’s Swedish classic Wild Strawberries (1957), which is about an old man recalling his past. The film will be screened with English subtitles and costs just INR 125. We couldn’t be happier.
