Imagine reading a book, under a reading light made of reed - I swear we’re not trying to confuse you. But as someone who has a special place in her heart for puns, I confess that the name ‘Reeding Lights’ for the book-inspired series of lights from MuseMART is what made me take notice. But once I set my eyes on the images, I couldn’t look away.

I could imagine it fitting beautifully into a reading nook in the home that I’m dreaming up for myself, someday. One where I can slow down and where each piece has a story to tell. For those like me, who put thought into each little element that surrounds me and are currently looking to add a little something new to your space, the Reeding Light might be just what you need. Created by the design studio MuseMART, they are a collection of lights created in tribute to readers and dreamers alike. Taking their signature approach of storytelling through objects, Reeding Lights is a blend of craftsmanship, whimsy and functionality.

Founded by Huzefa Rangwala and Jasem Pirani, MuseMART has crafted a myriad of designs that push the boundaries of conventional design, to create everyday items that are works of art too. In the case of Reeding Lights, their design takes inspiration from an open book, with ‘pages’ and ‘covers’ intricately woven from cane. These elegant panels are supported by a sleek black frame, creating a visual interplay of textures and lines. The cane, traditionally known for its rustic charm and strength, lends itself beautifully to these lights, adding a handcrafted value to each piece.

The collection of Reeding Lights offers five variants that can fit into different spaces within a home or even a commercial space. Whether it is the table lamp, wall sconce, or hanging light, Reeding Lights sets the tone, literally, and figuratively - creating an atmosphere that makes you want even to crack a book open. The soft, ambient glow filters through the cane weaves, casting shadows on the surrounding surfaces, much like how stories imprint themselves into a reader’s mind.

By blending design with the act of reading, and the eternal love for books, MuseMART encourages its audience to pause, reflect, and immerse themselves in the interplay of light and shadow. Every piece, according to the brand, is carefully crafted, ensuring that no two lights are exactly alike. The process reflects a deep respect for the weaving traditions, combined with a contemporary aesthetic that fits seamlessly into modern homes. The cane pages have a slight movement that gives them a dynamism, as if they are constantly shifting to the air of the room, much like human thoughts and ideas change with each new page we read in a book. According to the brand,

“Each element; from the crafted cane ‘pages’ to the subtle curvature of the frame, is thoughtfully designed to evoke a sense of wonder and enchantment. The play of light and shadow adds depth and dimension, inviting viewers on a sensory journey through the pages of imagination.”

On Reeding Lights, MuseMART

In today’s rushed world, where fast solutions and smart functions often dominate our surroundings, Reeding Lights from MuseMART offers a counterbalance. It asks us to create spaces that slow you down, make you reflect, and immerse you in the calming play of light. The collection captures the essence of the modern Indian, those who cherish traditional craftsmanship and hold a deep, nostalgia tinged love for physical books. The use of cane and minimalist frames especially, is a depiction of the design studio’s dedication to using natural materials and traditional techniques. The attention to detail is apparent in every curve and weave, that goes far beyond what mass-produced products can offer. These lights celebrate the everyday joys of reading, of quiet moments, and of spaces filled with wonder.
