Coronavirus India: Lockdown Extended By MHA Starting 4 May Till 17 May With New Guidelines

India has been under lockdown since 24 March making it a total of 37 days today.

On Friday, May 01, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced a lockdown extension by two weeks starting May 04, 2020. Major hotspots in India have been reporting a high number of positive cases of the COVID-19.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India has risen to 25,148 including 9,064 cured/discharged and 1,152 deaths, according to the Health Ministry.

Under the new guidelines provided by the MHA,

I. Travel by air, railways, metro trains and inter-state movement by roads is prohibited.

II. Schools, colleges and other educational institutes must remain closed for the lockdown period.

III. Hotels, restaurants, and bars will not be opened for customers. However, the delivery of food is still permitted.

IV. Large social gatherings including cinema halls, swimming pools, and gyms are prohibited.

V. Places of religious worship are to remain closed for visitors at all times.

Special permits will be required for people who are travelling by road, rail and air.

According to an Economic Times report, the State Government of Maharashtra will not be lifting the lockdown in Mumbai and Pune considering the number of rising cases in these cities. The lockdown in these cities might be extended until June.
