A Hug In A Cup: A Homegrown Guide To The Best Hot Chocolate In New Delhi

Disha Bijolia

If you live in Delhi, going out might have you second guessing; the unbreathable air, the bone-chilling winter and the crimes that never take a day off. But if you were to dare to step out of you house, let a steaming cup of hot chocolate be the reason. From cozy Himalayan cafes to artisanal chocolatiers, the city is brimming with spots serving up rich, velvety mugs of this chocolatey goodness. So if you too seek a warm hug in a mug, here’s our roundup of the best hot chocolates in town.

Colocal

Located in the artsy Dhanmill Compound with additional outlets in Khan Market and Noida, this place takes 'Bean to Bar' very seriously. Their chocolate is handmade using cacao from South Indian estates, roasted and crafted into decadent creations right before your eyes. Their hot chocolate? Oh, it’s an experience. There's the creamy 55%, the bold 85%, or something flavourful like Banana or Campfire Hot Chocolate; take your pick. Don’t even get us started on the gooey marshmallow topping on the Campfire version. Pro tip: Pair it with one of their freshly baked desserts, and you’ll never look at chocolate the same way again.

Melt House

The Melt House hot chocolate is an orchestra of flavours. Think Idukki single-origin dark chocolate, Belgian milk chocolate, and Dutch cocoa powder mingling with hints of coffee, chicory, spices, and even a touch of molasses. Top it with whipped vanilla cream, and you’re in heaven.   For a fun twist, try the Campfire Hot Chocolate (with a torched marshmallow topping) or the Bailey’s Hot Chocolate for a boozy kick. Served in a vintage-style mug, it’s the perfect holiday season ritual.

Cafe Dori

Stepping into Cafe Dori is like entering a Pinterest board. With its minimal-chic vibe and studio-like interiors, this cafe is perfect for those long winter afternoons. But let’s talk about the star of the show: their Hot Chocolate. Made with premium Callebaut dark chocolate, this drink is as indulgent as it gets. Thick, frothy, and topped with a cloud of toasted marshmallow, it’s a dessert in a cup. One sip, and you’ll find yourself melting into chocolatey bliss. Also, we dare you to not post this stuff on Instagram.

AMA Cafe

Hidden in the lanes of Majnu Ka Tilla, AMA Café brings a slice of the mountains to Delhi. Known for its cozy wooden interiors and laid-back vibes, it’s the perfect escape from the city hustle.  Their hot chocolate is like a warm Himalayan hug—simple, comforting, and oh-so-rich. Pair it with one of their freshly baked cinnamon rolls, and you’re in for a treat. Bonus points for the view of Tibetan prayer flags fluttering outside as you sip on this heavenly concoction.

Paul

This French bakery-café has been winning hearts worldwide, and their hot chocolate is no exception. It strikes the perfect balance of sweetness and richness. It's made from rich dark chocolate without the bitterness and is served with a buttery chouquette pastry. Feeling adventurous? They also serve a refreshing iced chocolate for those days when Delhi’s winter decides to take a break. Either way, you’re guaranteed a taste of French decadence in every sip.
