With the summer holidays stepping in, it is the perfect time to plan a getaway with family, friends and loved ones. With temperatures soaring high, everyone is in search for something cool, quiet and quaint, and beaches are the perfect answer! With the sunset displaying it’s vivid hues over the soothing blue waters, beaches serve as a perfect getaway. So we bring you a list of lesser known beaches in India.

Bangaram – Lakshadweep

A secluded island, gifted with turquoise waters, white soft sand, rich marine life, mesmerizing sunsets and tall palm trees. It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful beaches in India. Tear-drop shaped, one can enjoy the coolness under the luxurious plantations of coconut trees. In the midst of the warm, clear and deep Indian ocean waters, one can enjoy the heavenly sunsets and pleasant weather, the crimson sun kissing the flamed horizon before it dives into the sea. The incredible marine life rich with flora and fauna and enthralling blue-green waters can be enjoyed with scuba diving and deep sea fishing. Don’t miss the bioluminescence on the beach, with makes one feel like the stars of the sky have fallen at the feet, shining like the pearls.

Kondura – Sindhudurg

Located in the small quiet village of Kondura, it is a perfect hideout for people who want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. One of the virgin beaches with serene atmosphere and picturesque beauty, one can experience nature’s beauty at its fullest. The sunsets are sure to melt every heart. The rocky shores, curling blue sea waves and pleasing breeze flowing across, makes it a perfect spot to enjoy your vacations. Waters here are low and waves are very gentle, making it a perfect spot for enjoying a swim. Also known for bird watching, one is sure to see a variety of birds, sitting on the beach, with toes dipped in the sand.

Bhogwe- Malvan

Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Konkan belt, it is located to the south of Malvan. Situated at the confluence of the Karli river and the Arabian sea, it is blessed with amazing blue waters, splashing waves, silver sand and lush-green coconut tree lining. Watching the sunsets, where the sun is mild, but perfect enough to make the silver sand shine, the coconut trees in the silhouette and water just the colour of the sky, is a sight to behold. Another alluring feature, is that the waters are full of dolphin inhabitation. Watching the dolphins play, swim past you is an amazing view. A truly charming and serene beach, it is a great place to relax as the environment is so peaceful and ambient.

Guitar Island- Andaman Islands

Tucked away off the eastern coast of the North and Middle Andamans, it is one of the most significant and less explored beaches. With no settlements around, it is habited only with green nature and astounding azure waters and extremely tranquil filled environment. Shaped in the form of a guitar, the beach has a narrow yet beautiful sand bed, placid simply for the sun, the sea and the pristine nature. The most appreciated and alluring aspect is the marine culture, where one gets to spot the sea animals, hermit crabs and roam around collecting shells lying on the white sand bed.

Mandarmani- Kolkata

Argued to be the longest drivable beach in India, it is the largest and fastest growing seaside resort village in the northern end of the Bay of Bengal. Having relatively low waves, one can swim and enjoy every moment and relax, refresh the mind and body. The loneliness of the beach treats you various forms of nature. Spending the day gazing at the swooping birds and singing waves, sipping the green coconut water, it has an amazing aura of luxury around it.

Tip- Lakshadweep

This beach lies literally at the northern tip of one of the emerald isles of Lakshadweep, the Kalpeni islands. A secluded and protected little clove, it is a perfect place to enjoy the warmth in the arms of the divine nature. With enchanting views of the blue lagoons and coral atolls, it has soothing tropical waters and lovely big boulders to jump off. Secluded from the rush of tourists and chattering of rabbles, it is a perfect place for enjoying swimming and sunbathing in the lap of captivating waters.

Lalaji Bay- Andaman and Nicobar Islands

A long beautiful stretch of white soft sand, turquoise blue waters, green coconut palms and rich marine life, this beach is a stunning place to relax and rejuvenate. Located in the west coast of Long Island, it is another peaceful and eye-catching beach of the Andamans. An adventurous walk through the mangrove creek, one is welcomed by a picturesque landscape of the crystal clear sea and copious green trees. Ottinene- Karnataka

This beach is a stretch of beautiful waves hitting the rocky hills, smooth sand under the feet, tall palms swaying to the breeze and seeming to calm down the roaring sea. It is an estuary formed by the Sumana river making a U- turn and joining the Arabian sea. A spot abundant in freshwater and sea fish, one needs to be a good swimmer to wade his way through the estuary to enter the sea waters. Being a hotspot for fish, you can see a variety of birds flying down to catch a good prey. A long walk along this beach is very refreshing and rejuvenating. The sunsets are equally dazzling. One of its specialities is the sight of red crabs and small white crabs playing tag along the beach.

Yarada – Andhra Pradesh

By far one of the safest and cleanest beaches in India, is it surrounded by picturesque hills on three sides and the Bay of Bengal on the fourth side. A perfect holiday destination, its serenity and isolation allows one to spend quality time with themselves and their loved ones in the serene vicinity of nature’s epitome of beauty. Surreal and so perfectly scenic, the deep blue colour of the sea, when merged with the soft golden sand, makes the beach and the experience heavenly. One can enjoy the local delicacies on the beach and also if lucky, can watch the multi-coloured crabs running around, climbing up the rocks. The entire area is covered with hundreds of coconut and banana plantations, giving the beach shades of blues and greens all around.

Gahirmatha- Orissa

One of the most beautiful destinations in Orissa, the beach is symbolic of nature’s grandeur. Located amidst the Bhitarkanika mangroves and the Bay of Bengal, the long stretches of the coastline and lovely sandy shores are perfect for spending the holidays. This beach is the home of the Turtle Sanctuary and Marine Life Sanctuary, due to the ecological significance and diverse floral and faunal resources. This beach has been a cradle to adult sea turtles and their babies since a very long time. These turtles are known for their epic journeys starting from the Pacific Ocean, through the waters of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean and finally to the Gahirmatha, just to breed and recuperate. It is a fascinating and thrilling experience to watch these turtles crawl in and out of the deep sea, lay almost 200 eggs covering the entire area and labouring.
