Explore Modern Art & Design Aesthetics With Raw Collaborative’s 5th Edition This Weekend

Disha Bijolia

Raw Collaborative is a unique celebration of Indian art and design. Since its inception in 2017, it has emerged as one of India’s most distinguished design symposiums. With art, craft, architecture, and heritage at its core, the platform invites designers, makers, and craftspeople, annually, to showcase the processes behind their products and peel back their layers—literally and figuratively. It has continually endeavoured to bring together some of the finest design talents from across the country and present their works to the connoisseurs of art, design and aesthetics.

“Every year, participating designers see Raw Collaborative as an opportunity to create beyond their regular studio hours and bring to life ideas they have been longing to pursue. Bringing creative energies and minds together under one roof allows for a cross-pollination of thoughts, inspiring new discussions and collaborations,” says Tanvi Karia, who cofounded the platform with Priyadarshini Rathore and Vishwa Bhatt Weir.

Raw Collaborative has has 4 successful editions of the event with an exception in 2020 due to the pandemic. Their team believes that design in all forms - good, bad and ugly is accessible to everyone and it has a vast canvas of type, form and consumer base. Its last edition explored the theme of Design Consciousness — the thought and reality of whether design can become a much more conscious choice for the masses.

Raw Collaborative is back this year from the 1st to the 4th of December 2022, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, at The Alembic Art District, Baroda. The event includes showcases, installations, talks and workshops. Some of the participating designers this year are Riddhi Jain from Studio Medium - an apparel and home textile design studio based in New Delhi working on a combination of traditional and woven textiles and resisting dyeing techniques using natural and azo-free dyes, ERP Design Studio - a contemporary design studio offering bespoke customized Furniture & Product Design solutions, Magari Furniture - with thoughtfully designed furniture, reviving past traditions and art forms with modern technology and local artisans, and Tectona Grandis Furniture - environment-friendly, 100% teak wood furniture made out of reclaimed wood, among others.

Platforms like Raw Collective in our time and generation are a crucial part of evolution. They celebrate the individual expression of the youth that want their personalities to be reflected in the spaces they inhabit. Gone are the days of homogenous styles that occupied living spaces in the previous generations because of indifference and frugality. People now look at their homes and office spaces as an extension of themselves and want the aesthetics to match their creative spirits. Apart from fashion and our music tastes, exploring artistic realms through design and architecture is the phenomenon of the future and Raw Collaborative provides an engaging space for us to participate in those conversations.
