As a child, I’ve always imagined having a pair of wings and flying across the vast expanse of the sky to visit new places. The only problem with realizing that dream is a biological one. Unfortunately, I am not a bird and until we, as a species evolve and grow a set of wings, we have to board an aeroplane. However, visiting a foreign country is not as simple as just going to the airport, getting a ticket, and boarding a plane without looking back. There are several laborious procedures involved before one is allowed to set foot on foreign soil.
The process of preparing the necessary documentation for international travel is quite intricate, involving multiple steps and requirements. This typically includes obtaining a valid passport, securing the required visas, and fulfilling any additional entry conditions specified by the destination country. The process can be time-consuming and involves numerous visits to consulates or embassies, along with the potential for delays due to paperwork errors or processing times.
However, the advent of e-visas has revolutionized and simplified this process. E-visas, or electronic visas, have streamlined the application process by allowing travelers to apply for visas online, eliminating the need for physical paperwork and in-person visits to consular offices. This digital approach has made it significantly easier and more convenient to apply for visas, reducing the processing time and providing a more user-friendly experience. Travelers can now complete the entire process online — filing visa applications, submitting the required documents, making payments and receiving their approved e-visas via email. There is also no requirement for any interview. This innovation has not only reduced the hassle associated with traditional visa applications but has also facilitated smoother border crossings and enhanced global mobility, ultimately contributing to a more seamless and efficient travel experience.
According to the Passport Index by Henley and Partners, as of March 2023, Indian passport holders can apply for e-visas to several countries. At present, the Indian passport is ranked 84th in terms of the freedom to travel. Here is a comprehensive list of those countries that provide e-visas to citizens holding an Indian passport:
