“I only remember half the word that was my village. The rest I forget.
My memory belongs to the line of blood across which my friends dissolved”.
-Agha Shahid Ali
In times where everything is so very ephemeral, Annah Chakola is weaving a narrative through her pieces that survive the test of time. There is an active dichotomy in each and every one of us that finds ourselves further away from our homeland as new influences flow into our lives and mould our perspectives. Annah found herself navigating two worlds, India and the USA, over a span of two decades and this instilled in her a sense of solidarity and appreciation for her own homeland. Thus, came the inception of Annahmol.
Annahmol is a testimonial to Annah’s understanding of our culture and her commitment to allowing her erudition of western methodology to flow into her work. Her line of handcrafted jewellery, clothing, bags & accessories for the stylish and self-actualized woman blends an amalgamation of influences to create pieces that are timeless. With stones and fabrics carefully hand-selected by her, each piece tells a unique story. Annahmol understands the significance of preserving the raw essence of vintage textiles and vibrational semi-precious stones. Each piece is transformed into wearable art by artisans’ hands whose traditional craftsmanship is preserved through sustainable partnerships with Annahmol. From wellness products to clothing to bags, rugs, and jewellery, Annahmol has exquisite pieces to remind you of your bearings. One of her most relevant pieces is The Unity Pendant.
The Unity Pendant
“If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India.”
– Max Muller
“This Pendant was created as a symbol, a reminder... worn close to our hearts...
... that it is through unity we preserve all the riches of our plural World. ... through unity that provides space for our ever-evolving individual expressions ... through unity that allows humour to bridge the gaps between our contradictions...”
-Annah Chakola
The pendant represents the need for the new-age Indian to actively integrate herself into the fabric of his culture and identity. It urges the new generation to wear India on their sleeve as the youth disperse around the world seeking an opportunity. It was a gentle reminder to live and learn from the outside world but find their way back home because our country needs them more than ever. Annah actually created this pendant two years ago but now it’s taken on a whole new story with everything that is happening in the country right now. The pendant is an inquiry into the temperament of the urban Indian and it serves as a starting point for a conversation in a time where our dialogues will dictate the social and cultural paradigm for generations to come.
