#HGStreams: Nyla Saldanha Expresses Love Differently In ‘Small Talk’

Meghna Mathew

Some say that music is made for us to feel, but only some of it is able to create space in our minds and hearts. Some music accompanies us in our darkest times, while some is witness to our happiest moments. Either way, it provides us with solace in one form or another.

Singer and songwriter Nyla Saldanha’s latest track, ‘Small Talk’ is one that is all too relatable, especially in the dark times of 2020. Elaborating upon one of the many ebbs of life, Nyla conveys through her song, “I know this world has taken from you, all you’ve given me”. Her lyrics, as pinching as they are, bring about a deep sense of introspection for all.

The impeccable video, that you would initially assume to be real-life, is actually a 3D reconstruction of Nyla’s childhood bedroom. Motion graphics artist Christy Johnson does the video full justice and also leaves room for us to be in awe.

As part of the Small Talk team, David De Menezes not only helped produce the track but also added multiple layers of violin over it to create a surreal sound-feel towards the end.

Nyla Saldanha’s voice lends to the track as much as its message does. Sometimes, small talk is all you can ever use to convey the love you hold.
