2017 just got a bit more interesting with the advent of India’s first professional poker league. We haven’t quite figured out how this is going to be legal across the whole country, but it seems like the wheels are already moving for this bandwagon. The trifecta of heavy weights behind the Poker Sports League (PSL) is made up of Dabur’s vice chairman Amit Burman, poker portal Adda52.com’s founder Anuj Gupta and founder of the tournament India Poker Legend Pranav Bagai.

According to The Economic Times, the PSL will be made up of 12 teams, each consisting of 9 players duking it out for 3.36 crore in prize money. A little over seventy qualifying rounds will be held across a selection of cities for around 3 months, in addition to online tournaments expected to begin early in 2017. With no entry fee and a tidy amount of moola waiting for the winner, the PSL looks like it’ll see a lot of amatuer and veteran poker players trying out their hands.
