NFTs are definitely the new kid on the block and for the past two years, they have been all the rage. A rage that is definitely not bound to faze out soon, so it was only time for more brands to jump on the wagon. Not a week goes by without a designer or luxury fashion brand announcing their venture into the metaverse. They have been permeating across culture and causing a buzz all over the fashion and lifestyle world as well.

While some are still confused about what the heck an NFT is and what has it got to do with the fashion and lifestyle world. Brands globally have been making a mark in the metaverse, whether it was Nike’s recent launch of virtual sneaker NFTs, Gucci and Balenciaga accepting bitcoin payments and the infamous Rothschild interpretation of digital Birkins.

Since NFTs are one-of-one and cannot be exchanged or duplicated, only reacquired through purchasing from their current proprietor, the digital-first metaverse-centric branding is sweeping the world of fashion and lifestyle. Indian brands are more than willing to hop onto it and just last month Papa Don’t Preach by Shubhika became India’s first fashion house to officially enter the metaverse.

Now Roma Narsinghani — a conceptual jewellery designer with an artisanal jewellery brand of the same name has jumped onto the NFT trend that is blurring the lines between reality and imagination with the help of the MMO multi-verse Digital Village. Whether you’re shopping in the metaverse or playing a video game, you can now do it in a Roma Narsinghani necklace.

But what are these wearable NFTs? Simply put, wearable NFTs are pieces of virtual clothing or digital accessories like dresses, shirts, jeans, sunglasses or bags that you can use to dress up your avatar in a virtual world.

The collection that is being showcased in the metaverse was inspired by the introspection, self-analyzing and self-observation of the designer herself and speaks of a journey that goes from chaos and clutter to a space of heightened consciousness. Narsinghani, who is known for working with architectural designs and structural accents that have served as eternal muses for her, brings forth that very same finesse to this collection.

With this showcase in the metaverse, the sustainable jewellery designer also fulfils her commitment to minimal wastage in the sampling process while saving on resources and optimising production. It also reduces the team’s carbon footprint, as there is no need to physically travel to gather materials.

Opening new avenues for jewellery designers, this move to the metaverse is truly an exciting proposition and we can’t wait for other brands to follow suit.
