Indian Multidisciplinary Brand Brings The Best Of Art & Design With Their Wide Range Of Products

Jahnavi Shah

Kassa, which translates to ‘House of two’, was started in 2013 by two contemporary artists- Aarushi and Arpan who wanted to explore the space between art and design. “The word ‘kassa’ means ‘House of two’,” says Aarushi. It is a wordplay on ‘casa,’ which means house in Spanish, and ‘ka’ which means ‘two’ in an ancient language of the Mayans,” says Aarushi to The New Indian Express. By recognizing the benefits of up-cycling and recycling concepts, Kassa wants to highlight the beauty in the natural elements and aspects of our lives. A multidisciplinary brand, Kassa’s work focuses on the imaginative use of materials intrinsic to India’s traditional craft culture. Their language and pieces hope to ignite sensorial experiences and demonstrate the beauty of the natural and traditional.

Mission: Home (kassa) is where the Art is.

Both the founders have found themselves enthralled by art and design and have immersed themselves in the same. Put together, the couple has the experience of conducting solo shows at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai and art galleries in London, as well as knowing the advertising world closely. However, the couple finally felt at home discovering a space between art and design and translating their learnings into a design line that embodies their core beliefs. In a bid to export their treasure of experiences and appreciation for the finer things in life, they started working on a product line of things they could carry themselves.

Kassa provides a stream of design solutions like web-designing and graphic designing along with its line of products and clothing. Their love for the arts has ensured that the collective taps its foot into every aspect of creative thinking and contributing consciously to an existing thread of consumerism. Their one of a kind jewels encapsulates a wide range of tones from Ocean to Lunar. Homegrown loves the range in their products and the intent behind them. From wallets to jackets, Kassa has a unique product for every one of your needs.

An eye for detail and a passion for intricate work, finishing, and quality help the duo perceive and explore materials more appropriately. As avid artists and designers, the team makes sure that they are involved in every process of conceptualization and production.

The brand has been featured in Condé Nast’s Traveller, Not Just a Label, Platform, Pool magazine, Of Indian Origin, Love Travel India, The Hindu, Dainik Bhaskar and many more respected publications. This stands testimony to their deliberation and commitment to curating niche and sustainable products. The products take on a sculptural and recyclable form.

Kassa has 3 stores in Jaipur, Goa, and Bangalore and the brand has worked with an array of bloggers, models, photographers from all over India. Solo shows in London and Mumbai galleries, The India Story, Lakme Fashion Week, and The British Council show amongst other have helped the brand claim commercial and critical viability.
