Riya Sharma

Stepping up to the cause with ample activism and support are students led initiatives across the country using their resources and social media platforms to crowdfund COVID-19 relief resources by proving to be a nodal member of the fight against the virus.

I. GLOBAL SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

One such initiative has been headlined by Global Schools Foundation (GSF), which runs 23 international schools under its aegis, and is credited with dispatching more than 500 oxygen concentrators to India for Covid-19 affected patients with the help from Sewa International. The organisation has also previously contributed $200,000 towards PM CARES – the Prime Minister’s fund which was set up to help fight against the pandemic in 2020, as per indiaeducationdiary.

II. SCHOOLS TURN INTO VACCINATION CENTRES

Around 77 schools in Delhi were converted into vaccination centres for the age group 18-44 in May 2021. The listed schools proved pivotal in coordinating large scale inoculation of the vaccination drive. Schools are being converted into vaccination centres in Delhi so that even if a lot of people show up to get their jabs, the transmission of the disease is curtailed reports Livemint.

III. UNCUT

As Coronavirus cases continue to surge and the medical infrastructure faces the brunt of it, a group of school students from across the country are tirelessly trying to help covid-19 patients in critical condition. ‘Uncut’ — a platform for young people dedicated to discussing upcoming cultural trends took heed of the alarming second wave and decided to shift their focus to Covid-19 relief work.

Since then, they have been able to assist hundreds of Covid patients in distress with the help of expansive state-wise databases, updated and verified almost “every hour” by a 55-member team of volunteers who work in shifts through the day. The team has also launched a 24-hour volunteer helpline on Instagram, where they have been connecting Covid patients and their loved ones with verified medical resources, reports the Indian Express.

IV. Law School Initiatives

Amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, students and alumni of various law schools have initiated relief work to help citizens and frontline workers battling the virus. Students of NALSAR Hyderabad recently launched a Crowdsourced COVID-19 Database, students and alumni of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) as well as Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (RMNLU) are also doing their part by starting a fundraiser on behalf of two NGOs, seeking to provide free medical aid to the poor and run community hospitals. The funds received are being used by NGOs to augment their oxygen supply reports Barandbench.
