Mumbai All Set To Get A 39km Jogging and Cycling Track

Homegrown Staff

If one of your morning desires have been to take a stroll surrounded by some nature or to skip that A/C gym for some fresh air along with space for a free weight workout, chances are that there is little possibility of that happening in a city deprived of green spaces. But things might just change for the better.

According to this report by the Hindustan Times, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis gave his nod to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) plan to build a cycling and jogging track along the Tansa pipeline. This 39-km-long track is expected to be one of the longest in the country and will stretch from suburban Mulund to Antop Hill in Wadala.

According to this report by The Better India the project is set to have 40 entry-exit points, it will connect 19 railway stations, 7 Metro stations, and 4 monorail stations. Once completed, it will also be the shortest — and a more eco-friendly — route between the eastern suburbs and central parts of Mumbai like Wadala and Sion. A welcome alternative from the overcrowded local trains metros and horrendous traffic that persists on this route. For the benefit of citizens the track will have resting points, a biodiversity corridor, and a path commemorating books about the city and Bollywood.

This report by the Hindustan Times claims that the project will cost Rs300 crore and is expected to be opened to citizens by 2019. We can only hope that the BMC is successful in carrying out this progressive project.
