On the 12th, 13th, and 14th of November 2015, Homegrown attended the UN conference for Gender Equality in Kerala, organised by Gender Park, only to learn many fascinating things about the state when it comes to matters of more equally representative governance as well as equitable distribution of the state's wealth and equal opportunities for all. One of the more interesting, government-led initiatives we chanced upon was Kudumbashree. Female-oriented and participatory in every sense, this all-women network is now responsible for the large number of women (38,268 as opposed to 37,281 men) standing for local body elections next year. This is its inspiring story.
