Add A Pop Of Colour To Your Table With These Homegrown Ceramic Studios

Samiksha Chaudhary

With the love for all things vintage being more popular than ever, ceramic tableware in pastel shades has been taking over our collective Instagram feeds. Offering a fresh feel to art and design that we know of, these ceramic labels have had us wanting to add earthy pieces to our interiors.

While there are a large number of brands and shops that might be selling ceramics, there is something to be said about buying pieces that are unique, handmade, and have genuine thought behind them. Here are some homegrown ceramic labels that offer an assortment of handcrafted and artisanal products and have caught our attention.

Atelier Lālmitti a Clay studio located near Dharamshala making ceramic pieces

Founded by ceramic duo Reyaz Badaruddin and Élodie Alexandre, Atelier Lālmitti is a clay studio located near Dharamshala, in the village of Andretta that does handmade pottery. With a range of unique tableware, that has an artistic pop of colour and whimsical watercolour-like quality in pastel shades. Their unique breakfast sets feature different motifs like animals and botanica and no set is the same as the other. The name Atelier Lālmitti reflects the diversity of our setup. Atelier is ‘studio’ in French, while Lālmitti translates both as ‘precious clay’ in Persian and ‘red clay’ in Hindi.

Ceramic Studio Thomas The Potter in Fontainhas, Goa

After having run a design studio in Bangalore for over ten years, Thomas Louis, a graduate in Ceramics Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad also decided to shift base to Goa. His studio Thomas The Potter in Fontainhas, an area marked by colonial architecture and vibrant colours seems the perfect location for the creative venture. Seeking inspiration from animals and sea creatures alike, his pieces often have hand-painted imagery of cats, starfishes, serpents, octopuses, pigs, and seahorses. The practical and lovely ceramics are thoughtfully created in soothing colours and are the perfect conversation starters as they add that earthy element to your home.

Ceramic studio, community workspace and multi-disciplinary teaching, studio pottery workshops at Vivikoh Studio in Chandigarh

Spreading the joy of creating is Vivikoh Studio, a ceramic studio in Panchkula, near Chandigarh. Founded by artist, potter, and designer (whatever you wish to call her since she doesn’t believe in labels) Vivitsa Kohli, the studio is a community workspace that also doubles up as a multi-disciplinary teaching studio. Bridging the gap between pop culture and artisanal hand-made things, some of their products are an ode to Bollywood and all things pop culture. Apart from pop culture-inspired pieces, they also use quintessentially Indian prints and themes inspired by various cultural clothing.
