Ghost Animation's Mother Gives An Insightful Glimpse Into A Mother's Love For Her Child

Homegrown Staff

Mother, one of the animated short films produced by Gaurav Wakankar of Ghost Animation, a creative animation collective based in Kolkata, delves into the question, “How far will a mother go to save her child?” – a theme that has been explored several times in different art forms. It depicts a mother and her son, and how they are pushed to their ethical boundaries when their regular day of foraging takes a sinister turn.

It is a 3-minute short film, which has been officially selected at 15 international film festivals till date, including as a finalist at the Movievalley festival (results awaited). Mother also won at the international People of Colour film festival.

Mother began as Gaurav’s graduation project at National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, when the animated short film had a different title. The story focused on a slightly different plot in the same universe with a longer running time than its present version.

The film was premiered and showcased through Ghost Animation’s initiative, First Flight, where the Ghost team travelled across the country for two months and received an overwhelming response.
