It’s the second week of the nationwide lockdown. Most of us have finished Netflix and are just about done binge-watching our favourite shows for the umpteenth time. If you are done re-watching FRIENDS & Sacred Games, we suggest you try these off-beat shows while you’re self-quarantined during this lockdown. Shows To Be Released Soon
I. Never Have I Ever
The show is a coming-of-age teen drama about Devi, ‘your favourite Hindu girl in the San Fernando Valley.’ The show comes out on 27th April, and we literally cannot wait.
It is created by writer, director and actor Mindy Kaling, and stars Indian-American actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.

II. Killing Eve (Season 3)
Killing Eve is a cutting edge spy-thriller, based on the novel series Villanelle by Luke Jennings. The series follows Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), a British intelligence investigator tasked with capturing a psychopathic assassin, Villanelle (Jodie Comer); as the chase progresses, the two develop a mutual obsession.
The pilot season was written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, of Fleabag fame and received mass accolades for its writing and the lead actresses’ performances.
The third season was set to release on 26th April this year. The show-runners have moved it earlier to 12th April and honestly, we just can’t wait!

Shows Not To Be Missed
I. Made In Heaven
Indians are obsessed with big fat weddings and that’s a fact. So when a TV show centred around this lucrative business came out in 2019, it naturally blew up. Made In Heaven is the story of two wedding planners in Delhi, where tradition jostles with modern aspirations against the backdrop of big fat Indian weddings, revealing many secrets and lies. The show also talks about some real-life practices in the Indian wedding planning industry.
With a stellar cast and famous directors taking the helm, the show does not disappoint. The show will take you through a roller-coaster of emotions as each episode progresses. The first season has nine episodes and has a second season slated to be released in January 2021.

II. Pushpavalli (Season 1 & 2)
Stand up comedian Sumukhi Suresh has many feathers in her cap and she proves it with two successful seasons of her very own show Pushpavalli.
The first season focuses on Pushpavalli meeting the charming Nikhil Rao at an organic food convention and falling in love with him. Unable to get him out of her mind, she secretly follows him to Bangalore and begins working with her friend.
In the second season, Sumukhi Suresh is back as Pushpavalli and it’s worth your time. Along Sumukhi, the series also stars Naveen Richard and Manish Anand in pivotal roles. In the second season, we get to see Pushpavalli plan out revenge against Nikhil Rao (Manish Anand) after she gets exposed and he slams her for being obsessed with him, stalking him and also for hurting his pet dog.

III. Mirzapur
Mirzapur is an Indian crime thriller web television series. This show reveals the black market and the mafia’s role in UP’s governmental systems. It is especially focused on the Purvanchal Mafia system highlighted in some districts such as Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Banaras, Azamgarh, among many.

IV. Fleabag
A sexually-liberated, irritable woman navigates modern life in London in this comedy series. The show is based on Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s highly celebrated play of the same name.
Fleabag, the lead character has faced immense trauma with the loss of her best friend and is trying to navigate through life in the best way known to her: a healthy amount of sexual relationships with a number of guys. The show is a dark comedy that often reflects on Fleabag’s interpersonal relationships with her family (and a guinea pig named Hillary). The script is razor-sharp and fizzes with a daring, deadpan wit.
Fleabag jumps back into the fray with a bracing second season that upholds its predecessor’s frenzied wit and delicate heart, replete with Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s indefatigable charisma.

V. One Day At A Time
The series follows the life of Penelope, a newly single Army veteran, and her Cuban-American family, as they navigate the ups and downs of life. Now a nurse, Penelope is raising two strong-willed children. When faced with challenges, Penelope turns to her ‘old-school’ mother, and her building manager, who have become invaluable confidants. The series offers a contemporary take on what life looks like in both good and bad times, and how loved ones can help make it all worthwhile.
We love how the show highlights the pressures of being a single immigrant mother in the United States while also brazenly calling out government policies against immigrants. Watch out for the hilarious and adorable Abuella, the grandmother who has never aged beyond her forties and continues to act like it. The show is one of the most empathetic shows on TV and we highly recommend it.

VI. Fargo
Fargo is an American black comedy–crime drama anthology television series created and primarily written by Noah Hawley. The show is inspired by the eponymous 1996 film written and directed by the Coen brothers.
To call Fargo a pleasant surprise is an understatement. By far their greatest achievement is the superb casting and plotting. The universe of compelling characters initially takes a similar plot to the motion picture, yet with each successive season, the story increases into something arguably greater and more absorbing than the Coen Brothers’ classic. It also lovingly references a lot of their films through the subtle use of music, dark humour and creative cinematography. The show is a distinct trilogy, with its own quirky network of ideas including Greek mythology, folk tales and even biblical references.
