420 High: 5 Dope Movies To Watch This Quarantine

It’s 420 for an entire month and we’re locked down due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Most people are bummed out that all their outdoor activities have been cancelled due to the growing number of positive cases. Amidst all this, we can assure you that stoners are not one of these people. Stoners are content with staying indoors, getting baked and stocking up on munchies even under normal circumstances, so the lockdown is nothing out of the ordinary for them.

India has a long history of cannabis consumption for religious purposes. So grab your munchies because here’s a list of 5 movies to celebrate 420 on 4/20.

I. Pineapple Express

Dale, a pot-smoking process server, and his drug dealer, Saul, must run for their lives after Dale drops his stash at the spot where they witness a corrupt cop and a drug lord murder an Asian man.

If you like daft humour combined with James Franco’s presence on-screen, you are in for one of the funniest movies. The movie is made for stoners of all generations and is guaranteed to leave you in splits. It is also the first movie that pops up when you search for “stoner movies” on Google.

Watch the movie on Netflix.

II. Mac and Devin Go To High School

A fifteen year-old high school senior teams up with the current class valedictorian for a crucial chemistry project, and together they help each other make the grades to graduate in this high-grade pot comedy starring legendary rapper Snoop Dogg. The movie has received rave reviews from stoners all over the globe, so you know it’s going to be a good watch.

You can watch the movie on Netflix.

III. Gangs Of Wasseypur - Part 1 &2

This homegrown movie about the gangsters based in Wasseypur is a must-watch for everyone. The film contains a lot of explicit languages, action and an engaging plot to make it one of the most famous movies in India. Directed and written by Anurag Kashyap the film contains various scenes showing the use of ganja and charas by the lead characters. Both the films appeal to the stoner sensibilities due to the appropriate use of a chillum (a smoke pipe made of clay) on screen. You can read an in-depth review of the movie saga here.

Watch this movie on Amazon’s Prime Video.

IV. Harold and Kumar Go To Whitecastle

The movie follows the life-changing (and mind-altering) journey of Korean-American investment banker Harold and Indian-American medical-school candidate Kumar. The two set out on a journey to look for a scrumptious White castle meal and end up going on a long road-trip filled with numerous obstacles while getting baked the entire time.

Who here hasn’t gone out on a random hunt for munchies after getting baked? Harold and Kumar are celebrated movie characters in the Indian stoner circles for good measure.

The movie has a sequel called Harold and Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay which is available on Netflix.

V. Dazed and Confused

Set on the last day of the academic year, the film follows the random activities of a sprawling group of Texas high schoolers as they celebrate the arrival of summer, their paths variously intersecting at a freshmen hazing, a local pool parlour and finally at a keg party. The film depicts the youth culture from the 70s and has ample pot-smoking activities on the screen.

The film stars a young Matthew McConaughey and has a 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

You may watch the movie on Netflix.
