10 Days, 10 Digital Workshops: Hip-Hop, Design, E-Sports, Skateboarding & More

G Shock, as one of the leaders of street and urban culture for decades both globally and locally, has joined hands with Homegrown to host a series of activation to drive cultural growth during these testing times.

We understand that this is a difficult phase, and we are here to remind you that we are all in this together. To ease you out a bit during such prolonged periods of social distancing and community isolation, we at Homegrown bring you a digital experience showcase that has been custom-curated by our G-Squad. The workshops are an eclectic mix of immersive learning, creative contests, new product launches and much more, and will take place over the next 3 months on G Shock x Homegrown x the talents channels. Tune in for the ultimate online experiential street culture academy, where we bring both the streets and studios to your screens from June 9-20.

Here’s a list of the digital experiences you can tune into on our G Arena:

I. Dance Workshop

Join Bboy and ‘break-dance’ prodigy from Bombay, Arif, whose gravity-defying moves, mind-warping flips and ground-breaking steps have earned him a place among some of the greatest names in the Indian Bboying landscape. A influential force in the hip-hop community, Arif Chaudhary aka Flying Machine is easily the most consistent artist in the game, raising the bar for Bboying higher with every flaming performance he delivers. Find possible ways to move your body in tandem with the music through Arif’s online class on Bboying.

II. Design Workshop

Learn how to customize pretty much anything at home, with Chaitanya Dixit, on G-Shock x Homegrown. The workshop will walk you through the ropes of identifying different, readily available materials and tools for custom work. It will also teach you how one can tailor-make and personalize anything - from a jacket to a tee shirt or even sneakers - into something unique.

III. Live game + Unboxing a crate

One of the leading names in PUBG Mobile Esports community, Tanmay Singh a.k.a Scout has made his mark as one of the most entertaining e-sports athletes from team Fnatic. As part of Fnatic (India), which is a global team and the In-Game Leader (IGL), Scout is best known globally for his insane M414+6x sprays on PubG. Join him on G Arena to learn the ropes of e-sports and games.

IV. Hip-hop Workshop

When was the last time you let your body naturally move to the beat? This 12th of June, we got you covered. Here to turn the music up & bring back them grooves! Join Ambarin, a prominent face in the Indian hop hop dance community for a workshop on ‘Grooving to Hip Hop’, only on G-Shock x Homegrown #GArena.

V. Live Performance by Gully Gang Member MC Altaf

Join us for a special live performance by MC Altaf, one of the freshest face in modern hip-hop. He has a string of successful releases under his belt as well as a song in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy. Despite all the glory he’s touched in his life, he humbly tells spectators. “I write about social causes, about what’s happening in the country, about my life in the ’hood. I’m a hardcore rapper.”

VI. Digital Sticker Making Workshop

This is a digital sticker building workshop with Sam Madhu, a mixed media digital artist and visual design savant, who derives inspiration from tropes of Indian mythology, cyberpunk palates and visual representation of unapologetic ideas. In this workshop you will learn how to create animated stickers across 4 different softwares :Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema4D and After Effects. At the end of the session, the audience will understand how to create their own library of stickers (both digital and physical) that they can use for their digital flyers, skateboards, Mac Books, out on the street etc. As a bonus, Sam will also be creating some cool G-Shock-themed digital stickers for all the hardcore G-Shock fans.

VII. BMX Workshop

Annul, one of the leading names in the thriving and evolving BMX community within the country, bring to you a beginners guide to improve your BMX skills. With some ‘How To’s for various steps under your belt, from dropping in, to pumping a ramp, manuals, barspins, this guide will have you nail some cool BMX tricks in no time. In addition to this he would also cover topics like where to ride and BMX etiquette to ensure a wholesome learning experience.

VIII. Bboying Workshop on Footwork & Power Moves

In this workshop, Ramesh aka Tornado, a household name in the bboying community will emphasize on how footwork and some power moves can take your dancing to the next level. Join us to have a new appreciation for recognizing & stepping up to each beat, with the man himself.

IX. Workshop on the Art of Rap

Dhaval Parab aka D’Evil, considered an OG among Bombay’s underground hip-hop community, is going to take you through the art of rap 101 in this workshop. From creating a lyrical flow to delivery, D’evil will dive right into the basics to easily command a rap verse with confidence. As a special D’evil will share his views on the importance of hip hop as a subculture and why Emcing is an essential element for anyone who intends to make it big as an artist.

X. Workshop on Skateboarding Tricks

Scion of India’s rapidly skyrocketing skateboard community, a shredding veteran, Sagar has been a spearhead to the driven youth that seek to pursue skate-sports professionally.He will take you through a step-by-step breakdown of tricks with tips on the basics of how to get on your skateboard and confidently pull up with some cool moves. Join us for an uber fun session of skating smoothly out of the quarantine blues.
