For thousands of Indian classical dance enthusiasts and practitioners, Kathak means Birju Maharaj and Birju Maharaj means Kathak. The whole nation mourned at the collective loss of Pandit Birju Maharaj's passing away on the 17th of January, 2022 at the age of 83 due to cardiac arrest. Even without the genius’s corporeal presence, his artistic contributions continue to influence present-day Kathak dance form, infusing it with innovation, while respecting its traditional roots. Through his mesmerizing performances, diverse artistic collaborations, and unwavering dedication to preserving and propagating Kathak, Maharaj has cemented his status as a true maestro.
