As a non-practising video game enthusiast whose knowledge of playing is limited to Grand Theft Auto, Subway Surfers, and probably some cute dog games on Nintendo, I confess I'm not exactly what you'd call a gamer. While my expertise may be limited, my eye for originality remains keen. Which is why I was intrigued to find Project Madras, an open-world indie game set in the city of Chennai. 

Project Madras stands out as a promising addition to the world of video games, particularly within the indie development scene. Created by Royston Cinemo along with a small team in India, this semi-linear open-world game takes a unique approach by immersing players in the vibrant and culturally rich city of Chennai.

The game's emphasis on cultural references and attention to detail sets it apart. From iconic locations like Marina shores, the bustling streets of Mount Road to iconic culture figures like Rajnikanth and Dhoni, players are treated to a virtual exploration of Chennai's most famous spots, making it a delightful mix of entertainment and education. The inclusion of missions within this open-world setting adds purpose to the player's journey, offering a well-rounded gaming experience.
