This June, Art Forest, an alternative living community based in Pondicherry, is inviting participants to intentionally step away from our screens exactly through its four-day Digital Detox Residency, taking place from June 26 to 29.
Designed as an immersive retreat that combines art, wellness and community living, the residency asks participants to slow down and reconnect, with oneself, with nature and with the creative process. At the heart of Art Forest's philosophy is the belief that creativity flourishes when given space to breathe. Rather than treating art and wellness as separate pursuits, the community brings them together as complementary tools for personal growth, reflection and restoration.
Over the course of four days, participants will take part in a carefully curated programme that encourages both introspection and exploration. Mornings may begin with meditation, breath work and grounding movement practices, helping attendees establish a sense of presence before moving into the day's activities. Journaling sessions create space for reflection, while workshops in pottery, painting and other artistic practices invite participants to engage with creativity in a tactile and unhurried way.
The residency also extends beyond the studio. Set against Pondicherry's coastal landscape, the experience incorporates cycling by the beach, forest walks and opportunities to spend time outdoors, encouraging participants to reconnect with the natural world. A sound bath session offers another avenue for relaxation, using vibration and sound to create moments of deep rest and restoration. Dance and movement-based activities further reinforce the programme's emphasis on embodiment and self-expression.
What distinguishes the residency is its commitment to creating an environment free from the constant demands of digital life. Without the pressure to document, scroll or remain perpetually available, participants are encouraged to engage more fully with their surroundings and with one another. The retreat becomes an opportunity to rediscover attention itself as a chance to listen, create and reflect without interruption.
Accommodation and meals are provided within the Art Forest premises, allowing attendees to fully immerse themselves in the experience and become part of the community, even if only temporarily. The shared living environment is designed to foster connection, collaboration and meaningful conversation among participants from diverse backgrounds.
Art Forest's Digital Detox Residency offers something many people the opportunity to pause and step away from the noise. Through a blend of creativity and community, the retreat aims to leave participants feeling rejuvenated and grounded.
