Homegrown Label Bodements Launches Its First Up Cycled Collection Made From Pre-loved Saris

Growing up in an Indian household brings back fond memories of watching our mothers and grandmothers embracing and inculcating local culture on to us in the smallest of ways possible. Be it festive rituals at home or just observing the garments that were worn by our ancestors, tradition has always found its way into our lives in newer and evolved ways.

Deriving inspiration from her very own childhood nostalgia, designer & stylist Divya Saini has launched a brand new collection under her label Bodements. The collection titled ‘Neelam’ is a celebration of Saini’s childhood nostalgia where she recollects the skill of up cycling that was inculcated by her mother from the age of 14.

The collection features up cycled saris that are reimagined through vintage and contemporary silhouettes. Saini also reveals that the brand will be taking in customisations wherein pre-loved saris of the customer’s choice will be worked upon to create unique up cycled garments.

The idea has its roots from way back, when I was nearly 14 and ran to my local tailor with my mothers sari. With no knowledge of fashion, I explained in gestures what I exactly wanted and turned the sari into a long flowy piece, something between a kimono and a kaftan. 

Even with the most amateur finishing, passing the test of time, it still is a staple of my wardrobe. That’s when I learnt that up cycling is not only about saving the planet, it’s about bringing bygone stories back to life.

The launch campaign which went live earlier this month received a warm welcome from customers online. Bodements as a brand has time and again stood for diversity and with this team of inclusive faces and body types, the campaign became an instant hit with its audience as well.

Apart from this, Bodements also largely focuses on circular fashion where the scraps from the up cycled saris are transformed into scrunchies and the larger scraps are converted into longer garments.

The brand is currently stocked at Galerie Lafayette in Paris from September till December in association with CrushOn.
