Dualist Inquiry ‘Closer’
There is a certain ease to Dualist Inquiry’s music production that all well-versed with his music might agree to. Dualist Inquiry is the solo project of music producer, pioneer of India’s new electronic wave and now, an emerging multimedia artist, Sahej Bakshi.
His latest single Closer, in collaboration with Sterling Reserve Music Project features Sanchal Malhar (guitarist and lead singer of the band Superfuzz), explores the theme of longing. It tries to work through how one feels the need for a deeper connection with someone and how the inability to do so brings with itself a certain insatiable yearning.
Gowri Bhat And Derek Mathias ‘Younger’
Bengaluru-based singer-songwriter Gowri Bhat’s second single Younger featuring Derek Mathias is a nostalgic trip to childhood. Bhat’s soulful and aching voice lends beautifully to the mellow and gentle instrumentation on the track. “I just don’t like growing older, I can’t dream anymore/ Now we care too much about the future, we cant live in the moment” sings Bhat, reminding us of the carefree days of our childhood and the spontaneity and impulsiveness of the decisions we make as children.
Her single aptly echoes the sentiment we all experience all too often. Who wouldn’t love to turn back time and go back to the comforts of our childhood?

Irfana Hameed ft Parimal Shais ‘2 PILLS’
Hip-hop artist Irfana Hameed’s latest single with Bassdroppingalien (music producer Parimal Shais) is a vibe in its own. The artist’s music video is cool, edgy, neon, and everything we love about hip-hop. There is a certain sass and swagger that defines her voice set to the backdrop of Shais’ electro beats its makes for a perfect production.
Lifafa ‘Laash’
Lifafa (Suryakant Sawhney’s solo venture) released the first single from his highly anticipated upcoming album Superpower 2020. Known for his edgy and experimental sound that fuses electro beats, synths, and samples with a Bollywood-esque aesthetic, his latest single forays more into a contemporary sound. The video for the music shows Sawhney singing the song while on a drive with his wife Surabhi Tandon as old clippings of the two play in the middle much like the moments of remembrance after an accident (which leads to the penultimate scene of the video). He also introduces the Lifafa Cares Funds (a likely spoof on PM Cares) that demands a 200 rupees donation by 1000 listeners to get a new single from the album.
OAFF ft Landslandsmusic ‘Youth’
A box of old photographs and letters prompted producer OAFF (musician Kabeer Kathpalia’s music endeavour) and dream pop act Landslandsmusic (singer-songwriter Sohrab Nicholson’s brainchild) to create a new single. Sohrab wrote the poem around the theme of finding an old box worth of memories that was converted into a song. The dreamy and ethereal song composition is the result of a mutual partnership between the two creatives with OAFF providing the sweet and wintry production.
You can listen to the single here.
Sabu ‘Caught Up’
There is a certain sense to the whimsical that comes through with singer-songwriter Sabu’s voice. His latest single Caught Up too has a sense of playfulness and dreaminess. The song is produced by musician Rounak Maiti. Unlike his self-titled debut EP, Sabu’s voice has evolved though even with the latest indie-folk single he continues to stay true to his vulnerability and narrative that has come to define him.
Sickflip And Kaam Bhaari ‘White Collar’
Music producer and DJ Sarvesh (Sickflip) collaborates with confessional rapper Kaam Bhaari for Sickflip’s first solo hip-hop collaboration White Collar with Incink Records. The single explores Kaam Bhaari’s journey through hardships and struggle and his resilience in the face of corrupt politics and financial hardships. The music video shot in a Mumbai locality seems to be an ode to the various people with different professions that give the place its identity.
