Indian Army Promotes Inclusion By Recruiting Female Soldiers For The First Time

Indian Army, for the first time, has put out an advertisement for recruitment of women as soldiers in Military Police. They also put it up on their official website, notifying openings for the post of Soldier General Duty.

Opening up a new avenue for women as soldiers in the Defence Force, Indian Army has opened up their online registration forms, which will close on June 8, 2019. With an aim to fill 100 vacant seats, the recruitment rally will take place in 5 cities- Ambala, Lucknow, Jabalpur, Bangalore and Shillong.

Applicants have to make sure they fit into various categories mentioned according to the Army standards before registration. According to the official notification, in order to qualify for the post, candidates need to qualify the Common Entrance Exam, post which they will have to appear for Physical Endurance Test.

The selected entrants will have to undergo 33 weeks of training at CMP Centre and School, Bangalore, only after which they will be attested in the rank of sepoy.

Defence Ministry has been taking various initiatives to boost women empowerment in the country. Government also announced that the women officers can get permanent commissions in the armed forces.

This has been a noteworthy step by the government, especially in the light of the fact that only 3.80% of the Army, 13.09% of the Air Force and 6% of the Navy comprises of women as part of the workforce.

So far, women were recruited only as officers and not as soldiers. So this step of the Army is a very significant act in highlighting the importance of women power and women empowerment.
