Renowned actors like Christian Bale, Joaquin Phoenix, Angelina Jolie, and Kate Winslet are all known for using their skill to bring depth to their characters which they have often credited to method acting — a technique where actors aim for complete emotional identification with their character, based on Stanislavsky's system popularized in the US during the 1930s. It allows actors to connect closely with their roles by understanding the characters' actions and emotions, influencing their future performances.
Acting for Cinema, an immersive and rigorous training course, invites artists to embark on a two-week intensive journey that redefines the art of performance on screen. Guided by esteemed faculty from The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, participants will delve into a holistic, multidisciplinary foundation and practical training, moulding them into adept, disciplined, and confident actors perfectly suited for contemporary cinema. The course is held at the Mumbai warehouse of the G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture, a not-for-profit organization that encourages contemporary, experimental art and culture.
Founded by American theatre director, actor and acting teacher Lee Strasberg himself, The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute has nurtured the talents of some of the world's most brilliant and authentic actors. Their programs aim to equip students with the tools and craft necessary to create authentic realities and respond truthfully in imaginary circumstances, transcending the constraints of style or form.
Throughout the course, actors will experience Method Acting classes, Character Development sessions, and Method on Camera training, all designed to ignite the spark of personal experience in the creation of characters and stories. The Method™ empowers actors to utilize their physical, mental, and emotional selves to breathe life into their roles, freeing them from conventional and clichéd expressions, and encouraging the discovery of their unique artistic voices. As a highlight, participants will have the rare opportunity to engage in a virtual Masterclass with film producer David Strasberg.
Actors who embark on this transformative journey can expect to emerge not only as accomplished technicians but also as inspired artists, armed with the powerful tool of Method Acting. The Method™ is the key to unlocking the deepest recesses of an actor's imagination, transcending boundaries, and allowing them to craft performances that resonate on a profound and authentic level.
The course starts from September 4 and the submission deadline is July 30. You can find out more about the course here.
