Beats feed. Men eat. Legends dine.
Dining, in contrast to its supposed inferiors, eating and feeding, has always carried an air of sophistication about it. Dining is an experience to be savored and is not only about the mundane act of eating to satiate your appetite. It is almost always preceded by the word ‘fine’. But here’s where things get more interesting. Today I’m not going to talk about fine dining but instead about theatrical dining — bet you haven’t heard that before. Even I hadn’t until yesterday when I discovered this marvelously unique upcoming event in Mumbai.
Mumbai's food enthusiasts unite! An event titled 'New India Lodge: Athithi Devo Bhava' promises to transport guests to the 1940s, offering an immersive theatrical feast that intertwines history, drama, and culinary artistry. Upon crossing the threshold of the New India Lodge, guests step into a time machine where they become integral characters in a captivating narrative. The experience unfolds through a meticulously curated 5-course meal, with each dish representing a different region of India. From the flavors of Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, Maharashtra, and more, guests are treated to a culinary symphony that pays homage to the rich tapestry of Indian cuisine.
New India Lodge is not just about the food; it's about becoming part of the story. From the Bohri and Gujarati tradesman to the Malyali family to the Punjabi bride, every character has a tale to tell. Guests are encouraged to interact with them, uncover their secrets, and immerse themselves in their lives. Engaging in conversations, solving mysteries to uncover concealed narratives, and being a detective in a world of intrigue and charm are all part of the culinary experience.
This event is the brainchild of paChaak Productions, India's pioneering Immersive Dining Experience curators. Written by Shubhra Chatterji and directed by K V Divya Rani, New India Lodge invites guests to step into a world where reality merges with fiction, and dinner becomes an enchanting theatrical adventure.
As the event draws near, Mumbai's foodies are encouraged to secure their tickets as limited seats are available. With no lifts and 3 flights of stairs to navigate, guests are advised to wear comfortable shoes.
