Women are pushing boundaries everywhere –– from science to the arts, and motherhood to career planning. No feat is too small in a world mastered to make women believe otherwise. In India, we see examples of such women quite often –– here is one of them.
21-year-old Arushi Singh from Seheriya Village in Wazirganj block of Gonda district, Lucknow is now the Gram Pradhan (head of the village council) after she won out of four contestants. She is the youngest to be elected at this position, as the minimum age to run is 21.
A BA LLB student from Lucknow University, Arushi aims to transform the village into a “smart village with good internet connectivity and better public service,” she mentioned to Hindustan Times. With complete support from her family, she won the elections comfortable by 384 votes.
She also conveyed to Hindustan Times, “Firstly I will focus on education system for girls and boys and maintain the toilets with special emphasis on health and hygiene. I will focus on the improvement of the social and economic condition of people.”
Young women like Arushi are the fearless future of our country –– where your gender is the least of your qualifications for a role, and your age does not decide your capabilities.
