In 2019, a group of music obsessives tried an experiment — what if there was a record store that only stocked the kind of music its founders actually loved? No trends, no algorithms, no chasing what might sell; just a collection that made sense to them. So they put it online, built it out of their own shelves, and figured if nothing came of it, at least they’d have a record stash they stood by. For almost six years, On The Jungle Floor lived online, shaping a space for vinyl heads across India. Just a week ago, they opened the doors to a brick-and-mortar store in Bangalore, that feels like a natural extension of everything they’ve been building; slowly, steadily, and always with intent.
The space feels like a listening room built for curious heads. For years On The Jungle Floor has been a part of the vinyl culture in Bangalore with their events and collaborations. Their monthly Heavy Rotation series is where the shop’s crate-digging ethos really comes alive. It's a focused curation of deep cuts and hidden gems from across the globe like Turkish psychedelia, Ethio-jazz, Afrobeat, Brazilian funk, and everything in between. Each event puts the spotlight on incredible selectors and DJs who bring their own buried treasures to the table.
Beyond that, OTJF keeps the momentum going with regular listening sessions, small gatherings that prioritize presence over noise. They’re designed for deep dives, albums played all the way through, intentional listening, and real dialogue. No distractions, just you and the music in a space that encourages stillness and appreciation.
On Record Store Day rolls around, OTJF throw open the doors for a day that brings the entire vinyl ecosystem together. This is chance for people to dig through the crates, catch a DJ set, grab a drink, and meet other people who care about records, sharing excitement over physical media and the culture that comes with it.
Now, with a physical store of their own, On The Jungle Floor finally has the room to hold everything they’ve been building all these years — both literally and figuratively. It’s a space tuned for discovery, built for conversation, and primed for whatever comes next which is probably an exciting list of events and some soulful sessions. All the years of hosting listening sessions in borrowed corners, curating global gems through Heavy Rotation, and rallying the community on Record Store Days now have a home — a place where music can be found, shared, remembered.
