When young adults start earning, they are divided into different houses like Hogwarts. They pick what they're gonna spend their money on after helping out at home and sorting the bills, and that becomes their world for the time being. Crypto bros pour it all into blockchain, sneakerheads line up for the latest Jordans, foodies splurge on fancy brunches, and travel junkies save up for their next adventure. Me? When I got my first job, I funneled my paycheck straight into gigs. Every weekend in Hyderabad, a bunch of artists from around the world would be in town be it DnB, techno, psytrance or reggae. And I made sure I was there to see them. Those were some of the best years of my life. Right now I've retired to a quaint life in a small town but best believe If I travel to a city again, it will be to see an artist perform.
Gig culture as been a gift to urban India. It has made music into a communal experience defining the social values of our time. I know it has given my life a lot of meaning and lifelong friendships. So I take it as a personal honour to inform you that this month, Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and boxout.fm are bringing two incredible artists here in India in a 5-city tour. Connecting Switzerland & India, the Santo & Mulah tour is a full-blown cultural exchange with beats, banter, workshops, studio sessions, and a whole lot of creative energy.
Let’s talk about the power duo fueling this tour. SANTO is a Lausanne-based DJ and producer originally from Cape Verde, and his sound is like a global passport. Think Dance, Urban, Latin, African, and Caribbean vibes, all seamlessly blended into infectious "Future Beats." It’s no wonder his music has become a favourite for international DJs like Jyoty, Soulection, and Lady Shaka. Whether he’s behind the decks or in the studio, Santo’s goal is clear: wake up the crowd and keep them moving.
Then there’s MULAH, a Swiss-Lebanese trailblazer who’s redefining what it means to mix genres. From Afrobeat to Baile Funk, Trap to SWANA sounds, founder of the ZRO21 label, Mulah is a powerhouse of creativity, known for building new musical concepts like the “Happy Hype” performances, which blend her electrifying mixes with contemporary dance. Her sets are bold, unpredictable, and always uplifting, making her one of the most exciting voices in electronic music right now.
But tour is way more than just epic club nights (although those are definitely happening in Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune). It’s a full-blown cultural exchange where music becomes a bridge between communities. Santo and Mulah will collaborate with Indian artists in studio sessions to create tracks that are as unique as they are unforgettable. There is also going to be an Ableton-supported Producer Camp — a two-day creative playground where handpicked producers will dive into outdoor sound recording, remixing, and building a one-of-a-kind sample pack under the guidance of the duo and a special guest.
If that’s not enough, Santo will also host music production workshops, sharing the secret sauce behind his beats and inspiring a new generation of producers. And here’s the cherry on top: they’re bringing tech into the mix with Ableton Move and the Note app, making music on the go. From capturing the hum of a busy street to the serenity of India’s landscapes, these sounds will come together in the Santo India Sample Pack—a global gift that fuses Swiss legacy of electronic music with Indian soul, ready to inspire producers around the world.
What’s amazing is how the impact doesn’t end when the music stops. The Santo India Sample Pack will live on as a resource for producers worldwide, and free collaborative edits featuring Indian artists will keep the spirit of the tour alive long after December. Through this tour, Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and boxout.fm are redefining touring culture by making it an interactive meaningful exchange of art and music. It is an freshly modern take on connection and collaboration that fuels the music community.
