Participating in events like marathons usually helps one increase endurance and stamina and experience the thrill that follows after managing to complete a task or challenge that seems to be way out of their league. These marathoners in turn inspire the people around them by making them realise that no task is impossible if one were to make up their mind for it. This organisation in India is bringing a unique run to different cities of the country but with their own twist to it.

Go Heritage Runs are organised by GoUnesco which is an initiative started by founder, Mr Ajay Reddy to bring attention to the heritage of the country. These are unique events where sportsmanship and one’s love for history and culture come together. These half marathons snake through heritage sites and are open to people belonging to all ages groups. The events are never timed so one has the option to complete it at their own pace, encouraging them to take a look around. It is, all in all, a wholesome experience of enjoying and discovering the scenic landscapes and cultural heritage of places across the country.

The organisation has conducted about 7 runs this year and the next one is scheduled to take place in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh on 16 December, 2018. The run is scheduled to start at 6 am from Jahangir Mahal. Interested individuals have the option of taking part in the 5km, 10km, and 21km runs.

Participants also get a registration kit that includes GHR Passport which can be used to collect a stamp every time they participate in a run, a souvenir T-shirt and enroute refreshments like water and electrolytes. The winners are presented with medals that are handcrafted by local artisans and are an exhibit of the indigenous handicraft practices in the region. The organisers do this in hopes of bringing more awareness and attention to the art and artisans of the respective city or state.

You can sign up for the run here. Stop registrations are also open for residents of the city with an ID-proof for INR200 plus taxes.
