This Week In Culture: A Museum Rave, Skrillex's New Homegrown Collab, & Much More

If America can get back with her toxic ex, so can you. Sometimes it takes multiple trials before the errors are registered. I've had my fair share of situationships and only after the third one did I wake up to what a disaster of an interpersonal dynamic it is. But here's the best thing about it - unlike the second and the third, there will not be a 4th (Die Hard reference because Christmas is near) So, yeah, maybe we need to to be burnt a few times to reach a point of no return. Perhaps, America isn't there yet. People online have been slowly coming to terms with how it might not actually be the greatest country in the world. This might help solidify that image too. Maybe we'll find a better Western nation to look up to.

It's like when a caveman made a fatal mistake: the lesson would be etched into the minds of the entire tribe. And for evolutionary purposes, they were better off for it. Maybe America can be our caveman. I sound a little too optimistic about what is about to come but it's more shock-based coping than hope. I'm sure it'll be fine. We're fine. It's all fine.

Here's what we have for you this week:

Talk To Me By Skrillex, Four Tet, Champion & Naisha

Skrillex and Four Tet created a track called Flipside in 2014 that couldn't be released at the time. A decade later, they teamed up with UK Garage legend Champion and Indian singer Naisha to reinvent it and release it as a new house track called 'Talk to Me'. Bringing back that classic Disclosure-esque sound of wonky synths and melding it with Four Tet's percussion and Champion's basslines, the track becomes truly Homegrown as Naisha's vocals waft through the lush arrangement.

Chashma By Nitin Baid

Packaged as a coming-of-age film about a young boy with poor eyesight, the new short film supplies a larger tale about dogmatism and bigotry within the themes of communal tension in a 90s India. The protagonist's inability to see becomes a metaphor for perceptual biases that create social conflicts among different communities. Through a story about boyhood, the short film champions the pursuit of personal truth and judgement-free outlooks.

Insect-Based Culinary Practices

As we move intentionally towards a sustainable future, indigenous knowledge systems are appearing to be more and more of a viable solution. Insect-based foods that offer an alternative source of protein and nutrients without the harmful effects of industrial farming form part of it. Dismissed as being non-appetising or simply because it comes from marginalized communities, insect-based cuisine might hold the key to more sustainable food practices.
