Nestled in the serene town of Marayoor, near the popular hill station of Munnar in Kerala, is a place known as the Marayoor Mudhouse. This boutique resort offers travellers a unique experience that allows them to connect with nature, the local culture, and the people of Marayoor.

Marayoor is a place where the cultures of Kerala and Tamil Nadu seamlessly merge, creating a vibrant tapestry of traditions and landscapes. The Mudhouse is strategically located near the border of these two states, providing guests with a chance to immerse themselves in the beauty of both cultures while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Owned and managed by the loving and hospitable Pushpa and her family, including her husband, Mr Suresh, brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Dinesh, their children, Ms. Roopa and Mr. Deepak, and nephew, Mr. Ajith, the mudhouse was born from a desire to reconnect with their roots and create a tranquil retreat away from the chaos of city life. Initially opened to Airbnb guests in 2018, the mud cottages quickly gained popularity, especially among international travellers. Encouraged by the feedback from their guests, the family, led by Ajith and Roopa, transformed The Mudhouse into the sanctuary it is today.

Roopa, with her passion for interior design and decor,  has added thoughtful and intricate details to every corner of the property. Pushpa and Deepak are warm and welcoming hosts who enjoy connecting with their guests on a personal level. Meanwhile, Suresh, Dinesh, and Seena work diligently behind the scenes to ensure that every aspect of the guests' comfort is meticulously attended to.

The Mudhouse is not just a place to stay; it is a commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism. The team believes that every resource, from the land to the raw materials and the people, is precious and must be treated with care. The property aims to preserve the local culture and empower the community by providing employment opportunities, particularly to single mothers and divorcees. The Mudhouse encourages its guests to connect with nature and rediscover their inner beauty and spirituality, transforming their stay into a profound and lasting experience.

One of the unique accommodations offered at The Mudhouse is the Erumadam, inspired by the traditional watchtowers built by farmers in Marayoor to protect their crops from wild animals. Perched atop a Vela tree, this structure offers panoramic views of the valley and mountains. With its airy bedroom, open-to-the-sky bathroom, and a ground-level seating area with a hammock, Erumadam provides an immersive experience that connects guests with nature.

The Cob Cottage, on the other hand, embodies the essence of barefoot luxury with spacious interiors, a verandah for relaxation, and stunning mountain views. It's the perfect place to unwind and connect with the natural beauty that surrounds you. For those seeking a more traditional experience, the Adobe - Nature Living Mud House offers a homely embrace, taking guests back in time. Constructed with locally available resources, it features comfortable, quiant spaces that allow guests to stay grounded and in harmony with nature.

Beyond the charming accommodations, The Mudhouse encourages guests to explore the village of Marayoor itself. The area is adorned with waterfalls, breathtaking mountain vistas, streams, canals, and lush green farms, creating a picture-perfect setting for exploration. They have multiple curated experiences to offer to the guests from bicycle rides to treks to nearby attractions.

In essence, The Mudhouse is not just a place to stay; it's a journey into nature, culture, and sustainable living. It's a place to break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and embrace the tranquillity of the mountains, the warmth of the people, and the beauty of nature. For those seeking a truly unique travel experience, The Mudhouse in Marayoor is a worthy destination.
